I've been wanting to get a tC since they first came out, but am afriad to get one b/c they are so new. Don't want to get into a "Daewoo" situation! j/k. But really...has anyone heard of any reoccurring problems or negative aspects of the tC or Scion in general? Any comments would be appreciated as I am looking to make a decision pretty soon. Thank you so much!

the engine is exactly the same as the camry engine, excepted tuned for about 5HP [which is almost no difference] while maintaining the same fuel economy.

as for problems with the tC, the only problem i have heard of, is that the panorama sunroof creaks, but this was only on the first early models, and im not 100% sure that it still happens on the newer models.

as far as mechanical problems, aznthuggie is right, it is part of toyota, which means itll sooner rust to the ground, before anything mechanically goes wrong.

i also heard that the bazooka subwoofer is a waste of money and you shouldnt buy it as an option.

yes, TRD sells an axle back exhaust system for the car, but its is only axle back, so youll see nearly to none increase in horsepower.

and as for aftermarket, a stage2 supercharger is in development.
stage1 will put 200hp at the flywheel
stage2 will put 300hp at the flywheel
now that is pretty awesome.

hope this all helps.

It's a great car & definitely worth the money! That being said, there are some rattles, but you won't run into any sort of Daewoo situation ;)
You'll probably want to save money and not get a lot of the aftermarket stuff through your dealer and find them at much better prices online. I'd also avoid the Scion alarm & get something better & same goes for the sub :)

its definetly a good buy i am a happy tc owner ( minus the supercharger drama goin on)...the bazooka sub is ok...but it coulda been better. the trd exhaust adds a VERY nice tone...deep and throaty..definetly not the typical weedwacker/angry bee ricer sound. toyotas will last you a lifetime and then some...for the price 16k its definetly a deal i say go for it

I am also a very happy owner of a Scion Tc, I got mine back in april 2004 and I have the glass top pop'ing sound also. I just put on some Tein S.Tech lowering springs and the car looks awesome. Do not buy any of the factory upgrades they are a waste of money, They only thing I got with the car was upgraded floor mats. I looks cleaner they the other Tc's with all the crap on it.

You really can't go wrong with it... it's going to have aftermarket support to rival Hondas before you know it.... plus the toyota camry engine is damn near bullet proof... I know a guy that has 350k miles on his camry and hasn't had any problems with it. I'm sure the tC will be the same.

I partially agree with this... the mark up on the Toyota installed accessories is pretty bad... but I over heard my boss saying 'our' prices were going to come down a little...
I know once the supercharger becomes available, me and a friend are going to talk our boss into letting us build cars for the dealership and sell tricked out tC's, xA's and xB's every so often.. just to show people what is possible with them. We already do this every once in a while with some corollas (lowering, aftermarket wheels, upgraded sound systems)... should be pretty fun with the Scions.

the prices of the parts from the dealer are very expensive, but they are from a dealer, so what can you expect? you can find the same parts from mcgeorgeparts.com
Hopefully they will even offer the supercharger at a lower price so us enthusiasts can install it ourselves and save over a grand.

My friend got a brand new tC not too long ago, and I must say I was VERY impressed when I first got in it. And so were my other friends. The attention to detail is pretty amazing especially considering the price of the car. The ride is solid. And the back seat is unusually spacious. Probably because it is based off of a Camry. The only thing that my friend doesn't like about it is how quiet the engine and exhaust note are.

get the TRD exhaust..a little pricey but it provides a very nice deep, throaty tone (for a four banger) not ricey at all.

or any aftermarket exhaust or CAI for that matter.

So, how many horsepower does the TC come with stock? I'm looking for a new car that is nice and that I don't have to pay out of my teeth for in payments and insurance. I was looking previously at STI, but its to expensive and I have to part the car out to pay insurance.

Any recommendations?

Any recommendations?

the manual puts down 140hp at the wheels and 150lbs of torque at the wheels, and weighs 2905lbs.

the auto puts down 134 hp at the wheels and 140lbs of torque at the wheels. and weighs 2970lbs.

both are rated 160HP and 163LBS of Torque

Hope this helps.
