Installing transmission fluid

I have read through the FAQ's and was wondering the best way to put transmission fluid in (2000 passport, 4wd). It is said in the thread to jus do it through the check plug. Well, from a stupid mistake of removing the wrong plug, I had to find a way to refill my fluid without the help of this fantastic place. I found that there is a breather hose that comes from the tranny up through the firewall, all the way back behind your engine. Its time consuming and a pain in the butt, but with the use of a hand pump and a tiny nozzle to put in the vent hose, you can refill your fluid that way. My 2 cents. Thanks for a great board. I have one of the flawed automobiles, and at some point when I have the time I'll put on a list of all the replacements I have had put in and out of it.

As you've probably seen by now, there's lots of ways to add ATF to the 4L30E. IMO- the best method I've seen yet (cant remember who posted it!!) was to use an inexpensive garden sprayer. They have a nice large see-thru resevoir, pump it up, put the nozzle/hose into the fill hole & let'er rip! Fast, easy & mess free. Just remeber to verify proper level with the truck idling, warm, in neutral on a level surface.
