My 1999 S-10 has no power and when it gets to about 4k rpm's it just won't go. I replaced spark plugs, wires and check the compression and everything is good. Does anyone have any ideas? Does anyone think it is the timing belt or the universal joints on the driveshaft? The engine runs fine when it is not in gear, it revs fine, it is just when I put it in gear it craps out. It will run fine for about the first thirty seconds until it warmss up then it wil start doing this. Thanks

Check fuel pressure... You could have either a dying fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter which will give these symptoms...

I just changed the fuel filter. When I don't have it in gear it revs up fine so I didn't think it could be the fuel pump but I will check it out thanks.

Easiest way is to use a pressure tester at the shrader valve on back on the intake on top of the fuel lines.

if it only craps out under a "load" (in gear), i'd suspect weak coil (short inside coil sometimes you can hear it's faint click) casuing less then full spark ... other things that may be effected by load on engine i guess is compression ... weak plugs ... worn ign cables ... assuming the load trying to move is not abnormal like sticking brakes ;-)

Fuel pump could be clogged at the prescreen/sock also- acts like a clogged filter...problem shows at high rpm under load.

Well it turned out to be the catalytic converter but something is wrong with the computer system. I took off the converter and it ran perfect but the check engine light did not come on and it should have since I took off the 02 sensor any ideas on this? Thanks for everyone's help
