Defective factory paint jobs

Ok people...
you might remember some time ago I posted about suing GM because of the defective paint job (this applies to 80's-90s vehicles). well.. I did and I won (back in Nov. 04). I been so busy I forgot to tell everybody. Anyway... i put togther a website that explains everything and how to go about getting GM to pay for it's mistakes if you have the same problem.

Yeah, I remember reading about how they had to repaint thousands of Vette's for free back in the 80's due to faulty clear coat. Congrats on the win man, glad to see someone's putting it to the man :ylsuper:

Wow.. of the thousands of people Ive heard about trying to sue manufacturers, Ive heard about an equal number of them getting shot down..

Good to see that some people are getting their cars fixed..

i saw something about white overspray on some of the 91's during shipping, the 91 rs that i used to have had white spots on the tail lights. also the paint had rubbed off, it was like powder, also there was a recall of the windshield glue/adhesive not good and caused the windshields to pop out of the top corners, my insurance company saw it when the took pics of the car and they replaced it the following day.

instantkevin, I've got a Polo green 94 Camaro with paint that is starting to delaminate its clearcoat on RH fender.

What's your take on my suing GM to get a few bucks for the 'car fund'?

I'm the second owner of this rig.

I'm pretty sure the defect was only on the years listed, the 94 paint was more than likely fixed of this problem so I doubt you would get anything besides wasting your money trying. Also, I don't know how new you are to the boards but we try not to bring up old threads like this it clutters stuff up too much...

My paint job was pretty bad, mines a 91. It was chipping and all sorts of crap. The paint place I went to told me it was defective as well. I'm not going to sue because I got my paintjob.... :biggrin:
Nice car ....is that a real ram air set up or just the hood...either way it looks rad.

i have seen a few early 4th gens peeling paint... it's worth a try as long as you don't pay a lawyer. it only cost $20 to file a small claims suit where I live. you don't have much to lose and a lot more to gain.... most judges will probably be more apt to judge in your favor if your car is more severely affected. but it is a severe problem, so if you can get him/her to understand that, you should go for it.

GM really needs to get their heads out of their A$$es!

They have the worst paint and body problems of all of the manufacturers!
Past Present and Future

I have talked to a former GM rep that told me that GM knew that the paint was going to delaminate on all of these cars, but didn't fix the problem because it was going to cost them lots of $$$ and they were gambling that most of these cars would be out of warranty and they wouldn't have to do any thing for the customer or the customer would either wreck or sell the car before the paint delaminated thus eliminating even more of their liability.

For those of us who kept their cars most probabably didn't pursue the issue and just had the car refinished and went on with business.
(thats what i did )

GM is a very irresponsible company - That probably why their stock is worth less now than in 1964.

They really need to start listening to the consumer and giving us what we want, rather than what they want to give us.
If japan can give a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty - so can GM. They just need to learn how to build the car right the first time around
