HELP!! Cracking noise from engine bay

OK, now the squeeking noise is gone i have a new problem... There is a really loud cracking noise coming from the engine bay, it happened when i first turned it on, and went away after about five minutes, it returned for a few short periods while driving... Put in the clutch and did not do anything... I am thinking starter or alternator? any ideas?

PS by cracking i mean sounds like a pencil in a fan
