depends on the 2gen, they are tricksy

you'll be able to keep up but same hp to hp, you won't lose badly. that is if it is a gst or gsx. wait you said gt.....nevermind. It depends on the gst/gsx mods ie-bigger turbo / or high psi on turbo.

finally somebody didnt post that they were going to buy the dougs dyno power kit. hopefully people with limited knowledge will stay away from that kit

on another forum, there was this guy who bought the ddp kit and just slapped in on his car. he was praising the kit until i started asking him questions. first, he had no gauges. he had nothing to tune it with, and he couldnt tell me how much boost he was running. i knew nothing about the turbo kit. he couldnt tell me any of the parts that came iwth it. that was about 2 months ago, by now, his engine is probably blown

03-16-2005, 01:57 AM
what do you guys means when u say a "5.8 psi" turbo kit? Do u mean to imply that the turbocharger unit would blow after that limit, or the engine cant take more than that? Or the BOV leaks after that? what? just wondering, since psi is MBC controlled, especially in aftermarket turbos...unless you have a BCS setup for some reason adapted to working with the ECU... ?

the 5.8psi turbo kit DOES NOT come intercooled. going over 5.8psi with no intercooler will create too much heat for any engine to take.
once you get the intercooler, you can up the boost

the kit doesnt come with an intercooler?? Thats crazy... im sure you can pick up stock 4g63t SMICs on ebay for peanuts...no?

the 5.8psi kit is designed for the guy who doesnt want an obscene amount of power. this is for a guy who wants more than what hes got, but doesnt have to go into the engine, transmission, or any other part of the car.
and yes...it is easily upgradable. thats another reason for having the kit. say you only have enough money right now for the 5.8 kit. in two months, you get enough money to buy yourself an intercooler and other supporting mods.

Why I ask is if it is a GT don't get a turbo, no market and unless you have a lot of money and want to travel to Cali forget it. Plus the only two I've heard of and trust me I looked, called about 50 places and even Nascar (ask them to build me one) where junk. I'm new to this whole car thing so I just call and ask around and when 48 out of 50 professionals tells me a turbo for a V6 GT is junk I start to think so. Anyways, my eclipse has 328 HP, I only paid 4500 with everything. I will tear up a Evolution MR which does the 0-60 in 4.8 which is faster then the new GT Mustang. Turbos from what I heard are great for the smaller engines but not the 3.0 V6 GT
Headers 6G72 V6 SOHC - gave me around 45 HP
RIPP SDS-6G72 - Supercharger Drive System (RIPP) - around 100 hP
Anyways just had mine put in and when I drop the cluth in third I smoke the tires. If you want any info, their web site is great and they are known world wide for having the best superchargers for these type of cars, from what I've heard.

and why exactly would i have to travel to California if i wanted to get a turbo? please tell me why i have to go to california.
how about do something that a number of people WITH V6s have done and build your own turbo kit. just b/c there are no companies that make a kit doesnt mean a kit cant be made. there are numberous V6 owners who have built their own turbo kits and they have been going for 2 years strong.
the only way you could have gotten that kit and headers at that price is to get them used. the stage 1 kit is $3900 and the headers are $1200. so dont even try to say you got all that for $4500.
and i guess you have been talking to the wrong people cause a turbo is great for this engine.
also....you got a dyno sheet to back that 328hp claim up?

Yes I will scan it and paste it to this forum, hey I'm not getting into a battle I just tried to get a turbo for the longest time and all I could find was like you said, is to build one, and the headers I got for free, they were back ordered, and still are, and since I was buying the hit and a few other things, and plus I had gotten skipped for shipment ten times and had to wait four months for the headers to come, I got a deal. And if you call them and buy more then just the kit, they give you % off of the other stuff. And no I was not talking to the wrong people, I guess Nascar INC in Texas are the wrong people...Anyways, I'm new to this and was trying to give someone some help, since I got one on my car. And it's been great, no lag like turbos, no wheel skipping, and I kept my warrenty. What is so funny if turbos are so good why doesn't mitsubishi let you keep your powertrain warrenty?? HUMMM, since the supercharger didn't replace my head, the factory said it was fine... My buddy has the stage three, and has put about 40K miles on it and it still dyno test out over 400whp. But I guess his dyno test is wrong also.

Give the MR 4500 to upgrade also. b/c now its upgraded eclipse vs. stock Evo MR. Give the MR 4500, it'll dust you majorly. Also, i bet you cant hang with an evo around turns. haha.

Oh you are right about one thing, the evo MR will kill me around turns, come on AWD, you can't beat it, however one of my buddies has the Evo MR 2005 and we are recording the race in two weeks and putting it on a web site. I've beat it in the quarter mile but just, my buddy has the stage 3 supercharger on his Eclipse and he beats in by two car lengths, his car will beat a 2005 450 HP Saleen Mustang, we just can't find anyone that will let us race one. Guess they don't want to lose and have us post it on a web site. We don't race for money, i'm a wealthy guy and do this just for play.

if your truly wealthy like you claim, you wouldnt be wasting your time on an eclipse. you sir, are a dumbass. the same dumbass that i believed claimed to be an employee of a mits dealer and had a super cool chip that gave your car uber horsepower. c'mon man! either pass the grass, or get back down to reality.

Well give me your email and I'll email you the dyno test of a stupid chip, I didn't claim it did a lot just said it gave more hp then I thought, think around 15-25hp, however I will email you the dyno sheet. And dude, your the dumb ass, you are one of those guys who talks and talks, and talks and never drive anything more then what my motor is worth in my dumbass eclipse, and if you read a head I do this for fun, I drive a Lexus dumb ass, have a Evolution MR, and a 2005 GT Mustang, I do this because I think it is fun to make these small cars fasters then the big muscle cars and still is cheaper to own. Maybe you should stop putting your insight until you get a ride....

can we say advertising for RIPP?? you guys take a look at this guys other threads and tell me what you think... i will quote them in this thread b/c it will be easy for him to go back and edit what he has said in earlier posts. he said that hes had the RIPP kit ordered for 4 months. 4 months ago he knew nothing about turbos or superchargers.

I just put on a CAI and you can 100% feel the difference. Sounds like I have a after market exhaust, and can light them up in 2nd. Anyways would recommend it for 2000+ V6. My question is where can I buy a safe, reliable if taken care of turbo for my 2004 eclipse? I don't want a big one just one that the engine and car can handle easily.
then this was on December 31, 2004
Listen the V6 eclipse if crap. Yes it is a fast V6 but there is nothing you can do to make it beat a cobra. Don't listen to the turbo hype. They are not tested and there is no market for them yet in the V6 market for eclipse. I traded in my V6 2004 Gt Eclipse for the new 2005 Evolution by Mitsubishi. This car beats the 911 turbo 6 out of 9 racing categories. This is car is for real. Will kill a 2005 cobra and 2005 Corvette. And anyone says other wise is full of crap and knows nothing about cars. This is a fast and furious car. Look it up, don't take my word for it. There is nothing that will beat it under $200,000.00. I raced a 2005 cobra and I felt bad, all that V8 and no muscle. Dont' let some of these guys get you hyped up about putting turbos etc.. on eclipse. I will give anyone with an eclipse $1000.00 that I will beat any eclipse with anything on it besides nitro...
and this was last week. hey man...i thought you blew your EVO MR motor last month. notice his last sentence!!
March 14, 2005 !!!
First can a V6 GT Eclipse beat the 2005 Evolution MR? Just drove the 2005 Evolution and my GOD the fastest prodution car I ever drove beside the saleen mustang. However, I'm getting a turbo or thinking about getting on put on my Eclipse and want to know if any of you think it will beat that car? If not will probably trade mine in next year for a Evolution. What do you guys think?? And what the hell, why is it so hard to get one of those turbos for this car? YOu would think, V6 = turbo = very fast car!! Starting to think that a turbo might kill the engine, and that's why no one is making them for it. I'm new to this car stuff, so don't laugh at my questions. Just asking for some insight that's all.

hey man go lightly on that car because i've seen vids of 89-94 eclipses turbos pushing 400+hp on stock internals with bigger turbos and fmic. just about a 1200 dollar upgrade. and there was a guy down here who had and eclipse with n20 and turbo pushing 600hp with upgraded internals. It was a 1997 tho. but there is not much difference other than the body style and pre 94 came stock with 195hp turboed. but it was a light car also
Also its not the turbos that are good. thats the wrong way of looking at it. Its the mis-handling of the respect your engine can do. That is like for any car. if turbos are so "good" why don't they let you keep you warranty an all non-turboed, non factory, turbo cars? To me a super charger is a lazy mans turbo as well as the autostick is a lazy mans 5 speed.
for your age your a loser :loser: you cant come here expect people here to not know there shit. you should just sit back and learn. I do so i dont look like a dumb ass. you make stupid shit up on here people don't forget.

supercharging is the easy way out. theres no fun in modding a supercharger. you have no way of regulating the boost.

I agree and disagree with that post. Sure, a supercharger is not as adjustable as a turbo, but you CAN change the blower pullies for different psi. Although, like many people have said, belt slippage is a MAJOR problem with blowers. HOWEVER, I do feel that superchagers are a ligit form of FI because why else would Pro Mod and top fuel run them against N20, and win most of the time? I'm pretty sure they dont use turbos because the huge turbine they would use would probably wouldnt spool up in the 5 seconds it takes for them to run a 1/4. My buddy is putting in a 695CI motor in an 85 drag Camaro and is gonna blow it. The motor alone puts over 1200HP, and the blower will add another 300+.
IMO, different strokes for different folks. If someone likes a blower more than a turbo, so be it. And visa-versa. I dont think that there is any BAD form of FI, so badmouthing isnt really going to change anything. HOWEVER, BRAGGING ABOUT OWNING A GT MUSTANG IS REFUCKINDICULOUS!!!!! Owning a Ford is not something that I would want to get out in the open...maybe a vintage one, but nothing new. If people think that our cars are unreliable, they have obviously never driven an American car...lol. I LOVE JAP!!! (but not Honda...sorry. The sound of that starter just gives me the willies)

i was more relating my comment to our cars. a supercharger is great if you dont want much adjustability and if you dont know how to tune a car. but marcuseclipse04 was saying that the supercharger will make more hp than a turbo and that turboing this car was a crap....which we all know is false(running at the same psi).
drivability = supercharger is better
power = turbo is better

I can almost garuntee my 1991 Talon TSI AWD will spank almost every car in this 2000+ forum. Ive only put 4K in mods in it, and that includes the car. It runs low 13's all night long, and then I can drive it to work the next day.
P.S. Screw the FMIC, Supra side mount is the only way to go. Keeps the sleeper status I want.

Yeah, eclipse4auto, i was just sayin in general, a supercharger is not always the lazy way out. I dont even think the sweetest turbo kit will look as sweet as a huge 700CI motor with a huge Blower on top...plus then you can put the huge snorkel hood scoop on. But I do like it when they mold the hood on drag cars to let the turbo suck fresh air right from the hood, that looks sweet!
I agree, turbo for our cars may be more complicated, but the extra effort Im sure adds moster HP, along with the added satisfaction of having a semi 1off job.

and they actually have two distribiturs for the AAI kit. and just b/c more people go with the SDS doesnt mean its better. most people are lazy and just want to be able to throw the SDS on and go. they dont have to have to worry about tuning.

Fuck RIPP...overpriced morons. They think they are god's gift to 3G's. They have their Boost Cooler, which is nothing more than water injection...and they're selling it for $500!!! You can get a water/meth injection system elsewhere for less than $200. I repeat: FUCK RIPPMods
Edit: Oops...didn't realize this thread had 2 other pages. Anyway, this was in response to the last post on page one. Anyway, glad to hear the DSM guys chiming in here. I hate to say it, since I did own one, but the 3G V6's do suck for the most part. Yeah, you can make semi-decent power with the SDS or a custom turbo setup, but you're gonna put down MAJOR bucks tuning and maintaining it.
