I have a 1994 S10 pu with 2.2L.
Started to get ticking sound from head.
My mechanic feels it need a new lifter "$800"
or "Might need new engine"
Question 1 - Does $800 sound right?
Question 2- It's a 5 speed Manual. Could I slip a used or crate 4.3L in there and what kind of modifications would I have to do.?
Thanks

Sounds pricy to me.
If you can't replace a lifter yourself you really shouldn't attemp a engine sway as complex as a 2.2L to a 4.3L
Check for an exhaust manifold leak at the cylinder head. They often sound like a lifter.
If it is a lifter... or even if you do need that new engine look in a shop manual and fix it yourself
