My odometer is no longer lit and I want to investigate why. It went off one day and then came back on the next day. It is now off. Is there a recall?

Not sure about a recall, but mine had to be sent to a special place to get the bulb replaced. (The dealership did it under warrenty, so I don't have the details, but somehow the bulb went out.) Ask your local dealer for info on someone to fix it. Not sure what year, but after 2000 (maybe) the complete thing is SEALED, and cannot be opened... or something like that. good luck

Thanks for the reply. It is a 2002 sunfire. I'm currently working with the GM dealer to resolve this issue.

Sunfire_ca did you find out what the problem was? I am interested as I am having the same problem with my 2002

There is a cheapie light bulb that illuminates the display it is very hard not to impossible to replace i ve done mine, the problem is that you have to remove the needles from the cluster without breaking them then separate the board from the rest (eveything is clipped together) now unclip the white plastic cover for nthe odometer (it dos not come off so just bend the wiring with the odmeter display carefully) un solder the cheapie light bulb. i replaced it with one from circuit city ($5)

note if the needles came off with the shafts you are going to have to remove the white cover remove the gear and fit the shaft back in the gear. make sure that the gear is not binding in the gear cover (be carefull to not loose the black gear inside)

to calibrate the f-cking thing: fill up tank first warn up th engine

at this point don not push the needles right down yet in order to calibrate

start the engine place the rpm one around 900 rpm the spedometer one to 0

the fuel to full and the temp one to 190 or 90 celsius

check that it is ok then push the needles fully

Hope this helps!
