if you could chose would u rather buy and pay for everything ur self and then put it on all by ur self or pay someone as well?
or if given the opportunity would u take a sponshorship offered to you that would pay for every part u wish to put on ur car, but u still have to put it on ur self or pay someone else to do so?

Who pays for the parts?? I could care less, as long as I get them.

some parts are worthless without tuning.
now if i got a sponsorship that paid for parts AND tuning, now youre talkin.
if you dont have the time or means then have somebody else do it.

Being a college student, part of me wants to say whatevers cheaper.
Being someone who isn't as mechanically inclined as others, part of me wants to say let a profesional do it.
Seeing as that doing it myself will be more expensive in the long run, I'll let someone else do it. But thats becuase I dont wanna fuck up my car.

I'm interested in driving ... racing.
The being said, I prefer that my sponsors pick up the tab on parts. It's a wonderful arrangement that benefits both parties. So why not? Yes, I am left with Vinyl all over the car, but I am okay with that. :)
As for working on the car, if I had the time, I would be really interested in figuring everthing out and doing it all myself. Unfortunately, with the amount of projects I take on, that is just not feasible. I have a wonderful mechanic that I deal with and he does 90% of the work on Hyde for which I am grateful.
I rather be racing than wrenching :)

what? what the hell do you think a sponsorship is bro? you've been watching too much pimp my ride!
there are a few different kinds of sponsor ships. some will give you an account number and will pay for half of whatever you want. say you want an intercooler that costs 800 bucks. you call em up an say my name is billy new guy and I want a Greddy I.C. model G2MUCHMULLAH4ME and my account number is 000000.00. Then they will charge 400 to your CC and they pay 400 and you get the I.C. in 5 business days.
the other kind of sponsorship is manufacturers sponsorship where you get free stuff but only from that manufacturer. say you get a sponsorship from 5zigen (go-jiew-gen) for 5000.00. they tell you to pick out certain items from thier catalouge to the amounto of 5000.00, if you go over it comes out of your pocket. and you get the goods.
the other sponsorship is also a company or retailer sponsorship where they will give you a written check or will cover you expenses 100% up to a certain amount. say HKS sponsors you for 12000.00. you will get a body kit, paint job, turbo swap, full interior and exterior mods. you get the goods and they will take car of the bill or you get the cash but have to prove that the money went to the mods via reciept and contact info.
In all sponsorships there are risks. you essentially turn your car over to them and have to meet thier requirements. you must do x amount of shows and events a year. you must get x amount of magazine or media coverage. you have to do this you have to get that. they will ask alot of you and if you dont comply then you have to pay back every cent you got sponsored for and if you dont then it goes to court, you get reported to collections, you gotta get a lawyer and they even resserve the to take your car away.
and to answer your question YES. I would like for someone else to cover my expenses. Who the crap wouldnt want to mod thier car with someone elses money?

Yeah, but don't you ever wonder where Hyde could be today if you would have done your own wrenching? All the money going to the mechanic could have been used for parts. Hyde could be touching 9s by now.

Yes, I have spent some good $$ on my mechanic, but:
1. I know things are done right. (maybe Hyde would have blown up by now if I did all the work).
2. As I said, I would never have the time to do the wrenching. If you had any idea how much crap I am involved in ... I barely keep up with life. :(
... as for 9s, I am not sure that will ever happen.
I a mconfident my turbo can do 10s, but I do not think it is cut out for 9s and I do not want a bigger turbo because I prefer hill climbing and want the faster spool.
I want 10s ... then I will had N2O for a bit more and that is all for the 1320 racing.

That is 100% false ... sorry, cellular, but I have received plenty of parts at no charge in exchange for advertising companies on my car.
As of this week, I will be getting a part at no charge (rather pricey part too) and I am not even advertising the company with a sticker on the car. They just want to be able to advertise that the part is on my car. :)

Why not, thats what a sponsorship is! they make you into advertising. you put a sticker and do some shows and you get a free part. its not that complicated to understand is it? I got free tires from Falken, ZERO COST! all I had to do was attend 10 shows for the year and send back proff of my participation......other wise i would get charged for the part. but I did it and got free tires....oh yeah and I had to place 2 7x2" stickers and one 10x3" on the exterior of my car at a VISSIBLE location and keep them there throughout the show......so I guess I am a ricer who pulled off the impossible......would you like a copy of the info and pics I sent my sponsor to prove I was at the show???

The best way to prove to your sponsors that you were at events (shows, races, whatever) with their vinyl on your car is showing images/videos shot from a 3rd party.
The most important page I have for sponsors is here:
http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/HydePhotos.htm
"Media Coverage" in the right most column ... THAT is what sponsors want to see.

Sponosrships are a trade agreement. they will give you in parts what they would normanlly spend in advertisment, there is alot more to it then that. We give sponsorships away all the time. Thats what we do here. I know a think or to about how they work.

I never said I wasn't doing "anything" for them.
I said I was not putting their company name on the car.
They are giving me the part for 2 reasons:
1. They want to test it's limits and they figure if it is going to fail, it would be on my car.
2. They want to be able to advertise that I am using it and have it seen in my engine bay.
Fair enough to me.
The fact is that sponsorship is an agreement between two parties and no one in here can say:
"sponsorship is only _____"
or
"sponsorship is never _____"
We are talking about private transactions, anything is possible.
It's all a matter of what you can negotiate.

well I send them a letter or an e-mail with the contact info. the letter will include the date of the event, the name and location of the venue and a person or group they may contact to prove participation. I also include a copy of the reciept I payed to participate.
as an example: not too long ago I went to a show im Miami Beach called "The fast and the furious music tour", I payed online to participate, it was like 50 bucks I think so i send them a copy of that reciept an of course the most important part...pictures. like J&H said, from a third party, that makes it much more legit.

How hard is it to get a sponsor to sponsor you? How many turn downs have you had?
The more you do (racing, shows, etc..) the easier it is to get sponsors.
The more succesful you are (winning races, winning shows) it ets even easier.
The more you get coverage of your car (again, 3rd party photo/video) the easier it is to get sponsors.
Once you get sponsors, it seems (at least to me) that it is much easier to get more of them. Once businesses see that other companies value your car and are getting coverage, they want to get in.
In the past year:
*One sponsor backed out because they could not afford our original deal for '05
*I've turned down one sponsor because of my own lack of knowledge of their company
*Some companies that were interested, we could not come to an agreement on terms, so no deal was made
*The deals I have gotten have been an equal mix of me approaching them and them approaching me

THats the exact same equation
Some good info about sponsors n this thread. How hard is it to get a sponsor to sponsor you? How many turn downs have you had? BTW Ive been sponsoring 8 car companies over the last month, and I haven't recieved any perks. What douschebags :icon16:
It should have read "=>" instead of "=". If/then instead of equal.
