ok this one is begining to be a hell of alot of fun!
my wife has a 2000 stratus that has been acting up now since right around christmas time.
whenever you slow down for a light or a stop sign the car idles way down and starts to jump inbetween 700 and 1100 rpm i have to put it into neutral and give it gas real quick or it will die. once i give it gas though it will level out about where it's supposed to be (900-1000) rpm
and will be fine until next time we're slowing down again... it's as if when the rpm's are dropping that it can't stop them from going down at a constant pace, it wants to keep going at a fast pace and then dies!
the car is a autostick and if i drive it in stick it seems to act better cause i can down shift and it doesn't hardley ever happen. if u slow down real slow for a light it won't happen either. one more thing about it... i doesn't do it on warmer days, it was 55 here a couple days ago (average here in rochester is always below freezing in winter) and it never happend once.
ok this is what i have tried so far:
1.cleaned out the throttle body with carb clean and tooth brush
2.checked for engine codes even though the light isn't on
3.doesn't change if the defrost is on (AC on in other words)
the "idle air sensor/AC rpm adjuster" ( it's a all in one on this car) is what i think it could be, but it is $75 and is non-returnable! Without a engine code i was advised not to buy it from my local auto zone parts store. what else could it be? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks
Abe

I have got the same problem with a dodge stratus 2000 V6. any idea about whats going on?
I changed and cleaned intake manifold gaskets(lower and upper), spark plug, distribuitor cap, rotor, valve rubber gaskets, spark plug tube seals and nothing happenned.
Next step Idle air control valve or air intake temperature sensor?
I look forward to hearing from any of you soon

i get the same thing in my 2.4 96 stratus. When i sit at a light the rpms jump down from like 500 back to normal, which is around 700 and it sounds like its trying to survive. it wont die though. But every stoplight or whenever i stop it just starts misfiring. ERRR I want a new engine so bad in this thing. i wanna get it rebuilt but thats money i dont have right now. Any help would be great in this situation

This is only a guess because I haven't experienced this problem but it sounds like it could be an EGR valve issue. If the valve gets clogged or sticky it can mess with your idle. I noticed no one mentioned this as something they already tried. Maybe we'll get lucky and this will help. Good luck guys!
