hi im new here been reading alot of your thread. havent seen a fix to my problem, but might be able to help out. i have a 94 chevy c1500 4.3L 5 speed and it runs fine except that it dies out when i come to a stop only some times and randomly. then it just cranks. i took it to two machanics and repaired what they said to. fuel pump - filter, cooland temp sensor, MAP sensor, distributor cap and rotor. same thing. i have it at an electrical shop and they have narrowed it down to the computers PROM chip. a $40 fix! i'll find out tommarow. oh and nothing comes up on the scanner they hook up to it. and sometimes it idles ruff before dieing out. oh and when it dies out there is no fuel spraying into the TBI when i try to start it. hope this helps out. will post my fix when i get it.

A bad or plugged egr valve can make it stall like that to but i dont think that it would not get fuel.Try taking the plastic top off & unplug it for a couple days & see if it changes your symptoms. Also sounds like maybe a fuel pres, regulator problem.

does it have good fuel pressure when it dies??? i'm not sure what they tested but chevy fuel pumps are prone to failure. if low or no fuel pressure i would replace the pump and filter first. the map is probably throwing a code because the engine is running like crap when it doesn't have enough fuel. cap and rotor are routine maintenance items and they are relatively cheap. i don't think the prom is causing the problem. if there is no spark and the injectors aren't pulsing suspect the ignition module or pickup coil in the distributor. i've fixed tons of chevy no starts by changing the fuel pump which is most likely your problem.

hi again i picked up my truck today. i like to have it at my house when im waiting for a part to ship, ya never know what happends at the shop. any ways they did in fact hook up a fuel pressure gauge to my tuck and drove it around and also let it run for a few hours. pressure is fine and they have checked all the working sensors they check out fine. they told me untill they recive the new PROM chip, there was nothing else they could do but check out other sensors. so the tuck did die out on the way home but started right back up after a few seconds of cranking. they electical shop i have it at told me they had a camero with the exact same problem. they stated that when the PROM chip goes out there is no way of knowing what it is by hooking up the scope. they said i could get a "HIGH PREFORMANCE" PROM chip for $300 but i am not about to spend that much, $70 sounds more reasonable. oh an no my engine makes no unusal sounds when i have this problem. i will update by late monday

oh yea fogot to mention the mechanic at the shop told me that the PROM chip does in fact control the idle sumthin sensor and that when my truck returns to normal idle after being reved up that idle sensor was pulsating instead of staying open\closed. he mentioned that the PROM chip controls that sensor (control device). he check the idle sensor and it checked out fine. he said the PROM is bad on the computer. they have checked and changed the rotor cap and rotor, and all the others you did mention. thanks all for the advice. i will keep updates and hope it helps out all those other chevy ppl out there.
oh and how do i upload a pic of my truck and car on my reply box???

For the avitar like I have (left column under your name), click on "User CP" and click on the avitar tab. To have the big picure in the signature, upload it to some other site that allows file hosting, and make a link to it.

hi i did manage to get my truck running and all fixed up. my problem was it would die out randomly and just crank. i had replaced about $400 worth of parts on my behave but was tired of wasting time and money. THE BIG FIX was my PROM chip, in fact my truck even runs better soo for all you readers out there if you are in a situation i was in check out the PROM chip. the chip cost me from the dealer $79.99 i had to come from DETRIOT and was about $80 to get instaled and programed. so i hope thaty helps for all those truck that just seem to die out and crank for no reason you can find out. thanks for all the help and information

hi been another week and i finaly got my truck out of the shop :grinno:
ok here is what they did, they ran all kinds of tests and found a whole bunch of nada. but then they replaced my "ingniter" aparently that controls all the electrical on the whole engine "spark plugs, fuel injectors and other onborad stuff." i didnt pay for it, it was on the house, but they did say it was a LOT of money im going to have to price one. any ways the truck has been running all day and i even drove it REALLY hard and the truck runs fine now. i hope to god that is what the problem was. i will post if it breaks down within the next week cuz i need to take that puppy to arizona and those mountians arn't very easy on cars or trucks

i don't even know if your truck has one or not, but it sounds like a faulty crank sensor. they kinda relay the crank position to the cpu and somewhat control engine ignition. changed more than one on chev 6 cyl engines in cars, (2.8,3.1) but never in one of my trucks, so i don't know if you'd even have one. although, i always had fuel up top so it may not be your problem at all.

chevy trucks with a H or K engine don't have a crank sensor. there is a reluctor wheel and pick up coil in the distributor which sends a signal to the ignition module(ignitor) the module gives the pulse to fire the coil and injectors. the ecm provides power to the module and controls the distributor timing and injector pulse width. the Prom chip in the ecm is pretty much the program the ecm will run. when a truck won't start it's usually either 2 things. no fuel or no spark. if there is spark but not fuel it's almost always pump related. if theres fuel but no spark it's usually the coil or something else in the secondary ignition, wires, cap rotor ect. if the pump runs but there is no fuel or spark it is almost always the ignition module.
