Sebring starting problem

I have a 98 Sebring with the transponder key sec. system. The car every once in a while will not start. It cranks over fine, it won't start. If I leave it alone for 5-10 minutes it starts right up. The local dealer put it on the diagnostic machine and found nothing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Camshaft position sensor may be going out on you. Have it checked, I don't think they can check though, and/or replace it. It's about $95 for the part. Another thing to check would be your battery connections, make sure they are clean and tight with no corrosion. EGR valve may be going out, but my first guess would be the Camshaft position sensor.

I replaced the Starter relay, located just in back of the fuse box in the engine compartment. The battery cable is on top of the box it's in. It's a dealer only item, and it cost me $8.75. I have not had any problems since, and it's been 3 months since I replaced it.

Sounds like your fuel sensing unit is pooched. The bad news is you also have to replace the fuel pump being that they are one unit. The cheaper alternative would be to start recording your mileage (ie: reset your trip odometer) every time you fill up and don't run it dry.

I have a 97 sebring jxi convertable with with keyless entry and keyless ignition. My daughter tripped the anti theft system and now it won't crank. I just bought the car used and i know nothing about the alarm system. Please help??

Sounds like it went to KILL. I don't know much about the security part of it either, but have you tried unplugging the battery for a few minutes to reset the computer? I'm not sure if this will do the trick, but that would be my first step... reboot the svcing computer.

Took it to the shop costed $165.00..to take the entire alarm off.. worked for 4 days no problem and went to work and car shut down again..it is in the parking lot. maybe something in the ignition? wiring problem?? Maybe loose wiring?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am out of guesses.

My daughter has a 96 sebring that will not start on occasion. It turns over just fine. I am suspicious of the neutral safety switch(or something like it), because it seems that if I move the gear shift around, it will fire....sometimes. Other times we leave it sit, and it magically starts!!???

Just picked it up from the shop again. It costed $381.00 for parts and labor. Worth every penny. It is running fine, shifting fine, no problem. There were bolts in the fly wheel that were binding up the starter. Killed my starter and fuse box. So a new starer, new fuses, and tightend bolts, and it is on the road again. Get the fly wheel looked at and maybe that will solve your problem as well.

Has anyone heard of a Camshaft position sensor causing a starting problem, and if so, is there a way to determine it?

Ah man, you should have told me it was blowing up your fuses (ENGINE) and I would have told you then it was the STARTER all along.

WARNING... if you own a 1996 through 2000 SEBRING and you have intermittent trouble having your car start and you have not replace your starter... have your STARTER checked or replaced!

If your fuses (possibly the engine fuse) keeps blowing, there will be a short in the wiring that runs from the fuse box under the engine compartment to the back housing area of the CD player. It's probably making contact with the metal back of the CD player since it is so close to it. It took me awhile to figure it out, but I finally traced it there (red wire) replaced the 8 ft wire and voila! Problem solved. This intermittent problem kept blowing my fuse. I would turn the key and nothing. I would replace the fuse and after 3 or 4 good starts with the vehicle, it would blow again. I thought it was a starter problem for the longest, but I was wrong.
