i have a 96' max that has 75,000 miles on it. the only thing i have had to fix on it is the thermostat. it went out last week and that is the only thing i have had to do to it. i have had it since new. i would check out the maintenance records on it. if they did regular mant. then it will last for another 100,000 miles.

I've seen numerous 3rd gens go over 300k miles :)
no doubt the 4th and 5th gen can also. Just maintain it well and it is good to go.

I have an 85' Nissan Maxima with 210k miles on it and it still runs great. If you tune it up and change the oil everytime it needs it a Maxima will run for along time.

Driving it alot, and they have just added up. To get anywhere from
where Iam you have to drive 50 miles to get anywhere to shop, eat
ect... Also quite a few trips to Vegas in it to see family....:D

Seen a 92 with 340k on it. It needs a tune up every year (beginning to lose compression, timing needs yearly tuning), but it will probably see double that if it stays out of an accident. Meticulously maintained. After seeing that car for years, and how good it was I had no quams about getting my '02. Consumer Reports consistantly ranks the max as an extremely reliable vehicle so I would think for a 4th gen that most of its life will be after 100k!

Make that 240k... not 340k.
I don't know why I thought it was over 300k, but 240k is still a lot!

i have a '90 with 138,000 miles. i bought it with 108,000 miles. the only major thing is that i had to pay $1200 to fix a massive oil leak from the crankshaft and get the timing belt replaced. oh, and the common 3rd gen exhaust manifold leak which will be around $1000, but i can get by without getting that fixed for a while. other than that, just some of the connections with the door locks and windows, along with 2 window regulators breaking; i think that everything. but that's all expected from a 12 year old car. the engine is still running strong!

mine has 204,878 miles on it and it is 1996, it's doing fine i have had no problems. It's perfect... Just keep doing your oil changes every 3000 mi and your engine restorer evey time you change your oil, and it should be fine, don't forget to do your fuel injector treatment at teh same time.

Whatever you do, I wouldnt use the STP and fuel injector cleaners

that you put in with a fillup of gas. I used to do that, and my injectors

clogged from it, thats what the Nissan dealer told me, and not to use it in

Maximas, or with engines that are DOHC. When I was using it in my

Maxima, my injectors had to be treated at the shop, cause it was getting

to the point where it didnt want to start and stay running on real cold mornings.:)

I have a 1992 nissan Maxima gxe. with 347,000 on it that's right 347,000. It leaks no oil burns no oil and gets up to top speed on highway with no problem. I drive it hard everyday and go on long trips. Unfortunately it is an automatic (I bought it used with 45,000 on it in 1995). The automatic went out when I had a radio put in after the Bose deck went out and the installer dropped solder on the trans comp lines. But regular tune ups, timing belt change and this car will run forever. I love them

I'll say mostly highway but a lot is city. I change my oil/filter every 2,500 miles. spark plugs every 20,000 wires every 40- 45,000. Dist cap/rotor every time I change the plugs. Fuel filter every time I change the plugs. Plus I started to use Marvel Mystery oil with every oil change. One in the oil and one in the gas. This worked wonders for an old jetta I had. I'm Nissan for life. I plan to get another one but this one won't die.

I just picked up a 1988 wagon to replace the 1984 wagon my Dad is driving. He bought from my Aunt with 160K and now it has 285K and the motor is still running good , no oil use or fluid leaks except for some leaking injectors. The body is shot and will probably not pass inspection in August.
The 1988 has 120K and has an excellent body. Hope it runs as long and well as the '84 !

The only problem on the '88 is the shifter seems to be out of adjustment. It won't go into reverse until you are between R & N and it wont go into drive until you are between D & 2. Anyone have any idea what this could be ?
Thanks

A bit off topic, but still...I have an 86 300zx 2+2. Close to 150,000 miles and still runs damn well considering I have put this car though so much hell....endless number of races and redline smacks....peeling out like there's no tomarrow....drifting......fun in the rain........I can not BELIEVE that my car still runs. It is starting to show some signs of aging, but Nissan still builds an absolutly amazing car. I will absolutly buy another one. I would really like a new Max GXE 6-speed, another Z31 or, even better, a 92-96 Z32 TT....mmmmm.

I'm thoroughly convinced that God drives a Nissan.

mine has around 101,000
love the car but has little tweaks like one window regulator broke, it leaks when it's raining hard, I can't see my watch or the air conditioning image thats supposed to be there, the leather is dying, the paint is peeling and to top it all off my speedometer stopped working
haahaahahahah
lots of money to spend to bring back the car it once was
still runs strong though...
