ive had the displeasure of riding a ducati and let me be the first to tell you its not cool, its got a dry clutch, vibrates more than a washing machine, infact its VERY common for licence plates to fall off while riding,
also (correct me if im wrong) but the R1 is in a different class because of the bigger engine.

different classes. the 749 is in the same as a inline 4 600cc.
read the reviews and even with money kept aside the r6 is a better bike. infact the jap 3 usually come top 3 in differing order depending on review

ur right it would be the r6 but even if the 749 is a bit heavier wouldnt it still be able to compete pretty well

why do you say that, are you trying to win a bet?
i told you that they ride like a washing machine and aussie told you that jap bikes get better reviews than the high dollar italian ducks

749 will never be compared to an R1 and if you start saying stuff like "its heavier but if it wasn't it'll win" then you can never win the argument. "if it had more power it'll win"
the r6, gixer 600 and zxr600 will always come out top in overall reviews. the power of the 749 is down so much that the only thing that brings it back into the comp is if the test rider knows how to make the thing do it for him.
basically jap bikes are easier to make go fast. the trick to going fast is to be able to stop and to corner. yes the duke can do all of that better but only in good hands. chances are the same hands can get the japs to do it bloody well too
