supercharger lacking power?

Hi all,

I've noticed that in the last 5,000 miles my '95 P.A. Ultra has decreased in power a little bit. It's still powerful, but isn't quite what it used to be. It has 168,000 miles, and has a relatively new engine. So I'm thinking it might be the supercharger. It makes a little bit of noise, but not really noisy. So my question is: what symptoms do superchargers usually have when they're going bad, and if it is the supercharger then how long can I expect it to last until it really starts taking the power down?

I was wondering that also. I have a '94 Ultra with 62,000 miles and have had the car since 58,000 miles. I'm starting to feel some horsepower neglect also. I changed the supercharger oil when i first got the car and didn't notice any "extreme" discoloration in the old oil. I also haven't noticed any "knocking" sounds under the hood (supercharger grinding) but feel like there's a leaf stuck in the air intake or maybe the supercharger is going robbing me of horsepower. Any telltale signs of when the supercharger will cop out? much thanks!

Generally you'll hear a lot of noise if the supercharger bearings or coupler was going bad. Because of the inherent simplicity of a positive displacement pump, it won't really affect your performance much.

Have you done a good tune-up lately? Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and such?
