Does anyone know of an aftermarket skidplate for the 2nd gens? The only one I've found is by JAOS, and hell if I'm paying $300 for a piece of metal.

The best way to do this is to take off your plate and take it to a shop and have one custom made. Are you going for looks or duriblity?

Does the skid plate serve any other function than looks? If it's there to protect, what is it protecting?

It protects the oil filter.

and it is there too for aerodynamics.

and when you are going into the mud pits it helps prevent some mud from getting on underneath the engine.
