whats a 1.8's threshold?

Hey, sorry if this is a noob question but I have a 92 Eclipse Base model. Its my second car, my first was a 91 GS , Both had 1.8 motors. I am wanting to improve the cars performace but I dont know what the threshold for the little 1.8 would be. Is it possable/plausable to turbo charge one? What performace boost would a turbo bring to the car? Also if it would cost more than a grand I might as well just buy a old GSX right? Thanks for any help you guys can offer. I dont know alot about cars but im learning. When I got my 91 GSX I paid 600 for it and it had a blown head gasket. With the help of my dad who was a machanic when he was younger I replaced it myself. So aside from the head gasket and other small things I dont know alot but im willing to give it a try. Alright Ive rambeled enough. Thanks again for hearing me out.

A: Look at the stickies at the top of threads list and it tells you all about turboing a N/A.

C: I think the best thing for you to do is to look into a Talon TSi or a Eclipse GS-T/GSX if you want POWER

I thought the stickys were about turboing a 2.0 not the 1.8 I am currently looking for a 1st gen GS with a 2.0 or a GSX from that era. I live in ohio and anything other than the 1.8's seem to be quite rare around here. Thanks for the help anyway man.

PM him to find out where he got it from... there is also a 96 gsx from the same guy in Ohio I think...

I'm not to knowledgeable on the N/A's but I think the 420A is a 1.8 and the 4G64 is a 2.0... anyone else chime in if i'm wrong...

spyderman is wrong.

1.8 are 4g37 and they only came in 1g's
420a's are 2.0 and only came in 2g NT's
4g64's are 2.4 and only came in 2g NT spyders (convertibles)


btw all the turbo dsm's came with a 4g63Turbo and the 2.0L NT 1g's came with a 4g63NA
