Dumb Question looking for good answer

Hey gang,

On my 97 Jimmy, the rear wiper motor died. Now, before I rip apart the rear hatch paneling, I have a 91 jimmy rear window wiper motor givin to me from some guy in my neighborhood who had an extra (why, ?). He said I am welcome to it, but before the hassel, does anyone know if it may work?

AC problems, yes in the winter. Heres the deal, and maybe you have had the same situation. I had the a/c shot up with freon from a friend of mine last year because the system would not function. I had only a pound of freon in the unit. He was going to do the dye test to look for leaks but did not have the time. So we charge it and it woork great all last summer, no problems. Now, I noticed before the winter hit this year, I had been using the defroster which uses the A/C compressor. Now remind you when the a/c was on all summer it worked great. Now that I used the defroster, and the thing ran only a few times, and now when I go to use it, nothing, A/C, nothing, compresor comes on, nope! Keep in mind when I used it last was all summer and no problem, then I used the defroster a few times and all the freon is gone,nothing. Of course I think there's a leak in the sytem or something with the defroster. Let me know what you all think. Thanks much, Steamer

Compressor is probably seized.

Disconnect the electrical connector on top of the compressor so you can use your defrost and have the compressor disabled until you have it checked out at a shop.

You have to understand, you don't just add freon, you have to add oil too.

Have it properly chanrged by a shop.

The wiper assembly from the 91 I think has different style connectors.Check with the dealership to make sure.

After the freon escapes, the systyem is designed so that the compressor will not run. Easy way to check to make sure its not siezed(most likely not) is to disconnect the pressure sensor wire from the sendor, and put +12v on the clutch side. I know that on the older systems you can find that sensor at the condensor, probably the same for the newer systems too. If the clutch engages..the compressor is fine and just needs to be recharged. Usually with these and many other GM a/c systems is the gaskets that connect parts usually wear out and cannot seal, and slowly leak. The leak gets bigger in the winter because it is cold, and the gasket(s) or O-rings shrink even more, letting more freon escape. You should run the dye in it and see where the freon is escaping and fix it before you recharge it, thats the right way to go.
