Air compressor burnt out

Here is the belt broke due to the tensioner exploding. Now my air conditioning compressor is smoked. Is it something with some mechanical skills can replace themselves? Is it an expensive part? Also can there be more damage then that? Once the battery light came on I stopped and had it towed home.

Pretty easy to replace once the system is evacuated. Just take off the belt and take off the bolts holding the compressor in. Put in another one, charge it up and you'll be on your way.
