Removing Dash? trying to install deck

I tried to install my deck earlier, and HOLY shit what a pain in the ass!

I originally had this deck in a sunfire, and they are a breeze. Two bolts in the glove box and your done. But wow, how the hell do you get to the radio in our cars?

There are 2(I think) under the steering coloumn. I removed it, and it barely did anything. I noticed you have to take the whole damn thing off to get to the radio cause its one piece

any tips or advice?

ya I found that page before I tired....BS the top of the dash just comes away like that (3rd pic)

btw this is a 99 GT

I just this past weekend had to fix the radio in my GP. If its similar, the dash is held in place by clips on the backside that slip into slots in the main dash behind it. You have to remove the lower shroud first. After taking the screws out, it should pull straight out with a tug. Its held in place with clips as well. Once that lower shroud is out of the way, the dash trim comes out the same way. I started by tugging on the lower left hand side of the dash trim and worked my way around. You'll have to drop the steering wheel adjustment down as far as possible to get the trim out out past the steering wheel. The clips that hold the trim on may pull off the dash trim and drop behind the dash as you're removing it. Don't forget to unplug the Daytime driving light swithc if you have one. Good luvk.

how long did it take you?

if it takes you longer than 15 min to pullout your radio you shouldnt try working on the car yourself anymore!
