It is getting really bad in my town with all the import racing crowed that think that their honda's have so much more power than are V-8 muscles cars. I'm not trashing them but im sick of the attitudes. The thing that i hear the most is "we spend half as much making are cars faster." well i am going to tell you all somethin' they also have half the motor.

alot of v-8 also come with alot of luxury items/parts/functions that also increase the price. Alot if imports wont see that because there is no need to with half the power of a v-8. Also in the end, a real import that is customized to have the power, system , and luxury of a v-8 will come out about even. I will tell you what a very knowledgeable tuner told me here on AF. "if a v-8/v-10,12 decides to tune their car like we do, don't race it. we are talking boosting to make the power of a v-8 and there making the power of a v-8. so what if they boosted? Don't race it." Also it is not the cylinders that make that price. it is the luxury alot of 4 bangers don't have.cause they don't need it.

Why are domestic owner's so cocky? This is just going to turn into a domestic vs imports flame war. Every gender of automobiles has their cocky drivers. Imports, Domestics, Hondas, Fords, Mustangs, Civics. The point is, you're just getting angry at the people and not the imports themselves. You put that same person who's being cocky in any car, such as an M3, Mustang, Supra and they still are going to be cocky. So don't be classifying all import owners as "cocky". Comprende? L8...

It's true that import "racers" are cocky. But the guys you see that are cocky are not really import racers (usually), they're stupid crackers (like me) that have a Civic and have spent all their money on a body kit and a fart can. I hate to come down on my own movement like this (well not my...but you get what I mean) but I really do hope that it crashes and burns because I don't want to be like everybody else and to be clustered into a stereotype with all the other ricers by people with real cars i.e. muscle cars. But at the same time I hope that we get more and more cocky slow ricers so that people think my car is slow. I really do have respect foe muscle car owners even if they have no respect for me.
I hope all that made sense, I may not have gotten all of my ideas down on...uh...paper?...because I type slow, but I hope you all can get an idea of what I was saying, and not be too angry with me for defying a stereotype, and or hating the movement that I'm a part of.

That statement can really go both ways. I used to be into Camaros and that kind of muscle car stuff, but then i moved on to Hondas. I like them and i find the opposite to be true of what you said earlier. I find that a lot of domestic owners are cocky and then they tend to be pissy when they lose.
I'm not saying they always lose, but i have a friend w/ a Civic hatch with a B18C1 swap and turbo and he smoked some cocky ass in a 88 IROC camaro. That made that guy angry and he seems to be more of a prick now then ever.

To be completely honest, people who drive imports think they are badass because of The Fast And The Furious. But both domestic and import drivers have their sour bunch who think their cars are unstoppable. I'm an auto enthusiast, an whatever makes fall into that category, so be it

yeah, everybody wants to be that dom guy or that brian spilner guy. I just like to drive fast/tune no matter what car i am in. i love eclipses but i still want a corvette. See. Cockiness comes from any side thinking/wanting/hoping to be better than the other. all in all, import racers are really cocky because they think they have something to prove. like the odds or against them or something. (and because of that damn movie. "true" tuned import cars aren't wasted on silly v-8 races at a stoplight. they are used at the track where it really matters.

I find anyone behind the wheel here are cocky.
I got forced onto the medium strip on saturday because of a van I was overtaking decided to change into the lane i was already in.
On average, 5 people a day will think their car is better than mine and more powerful and attempt to race me.
On average, 1 is serious.
On average, a day, 4 people will cut infront of me
3 people will tailgait me.
1 will go 5km under the speed limit.
And everyone else will either fail to give way, speed, fail to indicate, and "hoon".
I hate Australian drivers with a passion, I can't even go to my girlfriend's house without having at least 5 people almost smash into me.

as a car fanatic, i have to say that this import scene is pretty rediculous. and they do have something to prove cause most of those hondas arent fast. i like corvettes, vipers, grand nationals, and other domestics, but all and all, i feel imports are more quality, have better service records, and just feel more stable. i was a honda owner(92 prelude si)and i always felt my car was quick, but not fast like a vette. i actually had a vette owner yell at a light cause he wanted to run it, but i laughed and said theres no point, ull win. i now have a 88 rx7 turbo with lots of speed that handles better then 99percent of domestics(50/50 weight ratio)but some could dog me in a straight away. i knew this guy who bought a camaro ss and he saw my 94 rx7 tt. he asked how i felt about my car and i told him it was an experience everytime i drove it. he then responded with my camaro is fast, but the weight really makes the handling shitty. all and all, unsatified. the racist remarks where from labeling a group, which u did. i know my car is fast, but i dont have anything to prove, dont feel superior to anyone, and appreciate all cars regardless of make/model. if someone seriously wants to run it, ill go to the 1/4 mile and keep it on the track. trying to prove ur car is fast is not worth ur life, or others.
i think they just wish there cars were faster,, and being in so many magazines, people think they are sports cars, when there really weedwackers made for getting groceries. add a turbo, and they have v8 power with less weight. now they could contend with v8 and see what happens. but add a turbo/supercharger on a v8, id have all respect for u.

dood, I just like to dick with my car.
When I was in AutoZone Saturday there was a kid there that asked me abotu the mr2, cuz the frontend was wrecked and we talked about it for a sec and then i gave him my card so I could take off and he called me and wanted me to come by one of the local shops. I did. it was packed solid with 90-95 honda owners. I had 2 people ask me what i shifted at when I raced it. I told them I didn't race it and I just got the wierdest looks. lol there was a kid with his oldass yugo talkin about how his car could keep up with hondas most of the time. It made me wonder if that was really how I was like in high school... I can say though, that a few of those "honda owners" that I underestimated when I first walked in were very knowledgable about engines. Definately more than me, which isn't saying that much. Guess that teaches me to judge people, yet again. Of course, those were the 2 that actually worked at the shop, but hey...

Cocky importers = "Penis envy"
Those that envy the displacement of your engine, or get mad when it beats them will act the same that us humans do when we see another guy that's bigger or badder then us.
There is no replacement for displacement.

Ever hear people say stuff like, "Ford had the best car this year", or, "Chevy is coming out with this next year.".... we've all done it. Its just a competition thing. You never admit that your competitions cars are cool. You always put your own car first, and act like its the best. If you admit any respect for the competition, it will be seen as a weakness in the automotive community. I drive a Ford.. or did anyways, and when I see hondas, I call them all rice rockets. The V8 versus import engine debate will go on forever, everyone has their own opinion, each side has its positives and negatives
V8s:
Pros:
ass loads of torque, big power, lots of potential, relatively light (SBC weighs like 500lbs), carb(s)
Cons:
gas guzzling, inefficient valve-train, low reving, *bleep*bleeping*bleep* carb(s)_
(cons don't really apply to Hemis)
DOHC i4:
Pros:
hi-reving, high efficiency, when they're fast you can scare the shit out of a muscle car owner, reliability/durability, fuel injection.
Cons:
low torque, relatively heavy (Nissan KA24DE weighs like 500lbs), complexity of stupid *bleep*bleeping*bleep* fuel infection
that's all I got, everybody can add some to each.
I personally don't have an opinion on the motor debate, both are good, both can make a car haul ass, as long as its done right.
In all reallity we shouldn't be fighting between ipmort and muscle car guys, we should be hating on some other group...like people who don't like cars,
STUPID FUCKIN" "CAR DON'T LIKERS"!!!

Hey smokin' Joe- remember one thing- There is no substitute for cubic inches. There are poor compensations but anything you do to tune on a little engine when done to a big V-8 returns more power expedentially. And the real power force, torque, can't be mimicked by trick heads or anything else on a 4cylinder engine.

I believe both CivRacer95 and RickwithaTbird said it best back in post # 8 (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2872394&postcount=8) and post # 25 (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2876745&postcount=25), and I'll add that while that might seem true, its just a myth. In every brand there are cocky drivers, no matter what vehicle you drive, the driver will always feel some sort of connection with the vehicle in terms of loyalty, respect, admiration and rivalry when compared to other makes. Like I said in the past, every vehicle can be out class, out numbered, and out raced by some other vehicle, its only a matter of time and place. Its up to us auto enthusiasts to either accept or deny the fact that another make can be better than our own vehicle. The true auto enthusiast at heart accepts the wins as well as the losses without having to be so cocky and nothing to prove. Again, not every import owner/racer is cocky. Its only a certain few that make the whole bunch look bad. Maybe its an ego thing or a male thing, who knows. But one thing is certain, its been happening since day one that the auto was made. Call it competition, rivarly or whatever. So long as its in fun and not in the cocky way.

True there is "no substitute for cubic inches", but actually the expression is "no replacement for displacement" you know 'cause it rhymes. There's also an expression that goes "less is more", by that I mean a small light engine and car need less torque to get moving, speed isn't made by horsepower and torque, its made by gearing and power:weight ratio. For exampl, lets say my car weighs 2200lbs, and has 220hp, and your car weighs 3300lbs w/ 330hp, if we have the same gearing our cars will be the same speed. And true V8s do make more torque, but no you can make more torque on an i4, its called forced induction. Lastly think about F1, they're naturally aspirated 3L engines in light cars that can take the cars to 60 in under 2 secs. Explain that on your "no replacement for displacement" theory. I'm making a new theory its: "no substitue for RPMs". Also, the analogy of the two cars, one 2200lbs the other 3300lbs, what happens when the owners decide they also want their cars to handle, and stop. Well, it'll be much easier to turn and stop the lighter car because its lighter. Finally, I know that you will want to bring up top fuel cars because they are the illogical etreme of the muscle, like F1 is the ilogical extreme of handling cars. But I think that that is bunk (top fuel's supreme use of the V8) because they are pumping over 60psi of boost, and they rebuild motors after every run. But now, F1 must run to 50ish lap races on a motor without rebuilding it. So, the fisrt thing I want to see is a 2L DOHC straight four stacked with 60+psi of boost, and see how it stacks up to a top fuel-er, won't be as fast, but it'd give a real shock I bet. Second thing I want to see is an old style central cam, 2 valves per cylinder V8 that can rev to 18000rpm.

domestics owners are just as cocky as any import owners, just depends on the person. Read this damn thread. In the end, big displacement V8s are easier to mod than small engines, but it does depend on the engine. The skyline motor, RB26DETT is only a 2.6 liter engine, but has mass potential. With little bit of tuning, and i/h/e, + air-fuel ratio controller you can make 550 whp. In the end, a big LS1 engine will produce more power than the almighty skyline engine though.
The point isn't speed though, are you really going to mod it pass the thousands? I mean who here are really going to mod their car up past 12 seconds, when it's not even streetable. I prefer imports to domestics because the suspensions are so much better. I don't want to drive crappy solid rear axle suspensions, which date back to the 70s. I want something I can control, and corner with. Also american cars have those clunky cheap plastic interiors, when I get in my car, I want to be surrounded by a nice styled interior with a good solid build. I'd rather take corners at 35-40 mph with no body roll than slow down to 10-15 mph than with a domestic. Not to mention straight light speeding will get you tickets and be costly in the long run.

ok I have to hi jack a new name to "Cocky Import and V8 Racers" Now with that name there should be no flame war of any sort since this was ended back when some believer turboed/tuned an import long ago. So there. there is no reason to be "cocky" import "drivers". (me too) because
And V8ers theres no need to be "cocky" because you have the power. if a i4 isnt a real car, then what makes a car? Rep. and personal liking. that is what makes a car imo. remember long ago when v8s were only putting out like 200hp (long ago).
I'll put it like this-
in basketball, remember last few seasons when the west was unbeatble? remember detroit (what!) fans how good it felt to beat the west? especially the lakers? it is the same concept. now that it is done there is no need to prove it can be done. both sides have winners and losers. there is no need to be cocky anymore. it is simply pointless now. damn this is stupid junior-high/high school shit...

in basketball, remember last few seasons when the west was unbeatble? remember detroit (what!) fans how good it felt to beat the west? especially the lakers? it is the same concept. now that it is done there is no need to prove it can be done. both sides have winners and losers. there is no need to be cocky anymore. it is simply pointless now. damn this is stupid junior-high/high school shit...

good point, remember when the pacers played the pistons?
It just goes to show, that when you can't win, just take out innocent bystanders. So the import owners get sad about having slow cars, and they hate on Ford owners because of it. Good point drew.

i dont think anyone mentioned driving skill yet. ive seen people lose races cause of bad, early shifts, spinning tire too much, and bad take-offs. sometimes the better driver will win, not the car. but if u have a500hp car vs a 200, bad driver can still prevail.

just depends on car. I've seen cocky ass V6 mustangs get owned really badly and get all hostile. In the local dragva forums, mustangs are probably the most killed cars on there. like 1 out of every 3 kills, someone killed a mustang. There's a lot of turboed crx's, integras, 240sx's with SR20s, that would own V8s and do own them whenever there are organized races. Of course the ricers have slow cars, but they don't care about ford or anything. They just want to look nice and pretty. And who the hell would be jealous of a Ford :sly:

ya, i mean i owned a ford 5.slow and never thought it was fast, sorry to say rick, but it was a t-bird and the only t-bird i liked was the 92 v6 supercharged sc. that was a sick car, but otherwise, t-birds are no threat. i think people are underestimating turbos and superchargers. if u take a 4 cylinder and put a turbo that adds 100 hp, the four cylinder would have more power then the v8, and still be much lighter. i tend to disagree with no placement for displacement, cause my 1.3l rotary proves that wrong daily. add a supercharger to a v8 t-bird, u have urself one bad ass car thats not to be fuct with. except for turns. rick, did ur t-bird have possi traction?, mine only spun one tire! no drifts for me.

Most people are cocky, and all it takes is a 1.8L engine to bring it out of them.

I dont believe I had posi. But I was always drifting, and could do some mean donuts. My plan is to get a V8 bird and put a supercharger on it. I pick the bird because I love its class. I also like 2000 Accord 2 door V6 coupes. those are mean too, but I still like the T Bird best.
but about the 4 cylinder vs V8, I still always have to side with the V8s. I know the boosted little 4 cylinder cars can be real fuckin quick, but they don't have the balls that make them a MANS car. Like a big ol 442, with rumbling exhaust. I don't care if a civic runs a damn 8 in a 1/4 mile, I'd still prefer a built V8. Fart cans will never have anything on a manly deep rumble coming from the exhaust pipes. never.

a lot of import drivers come across as cocky because a lot of them are young 16-20. for a lot kids, civics are their first car. cockyness goes hand in hand with immaturity and lets face it, when we were 16 and 17 we were all probably cocky sons of bitches. its just an idea i'd throw out there.
but all drivers can be assholes. some of the worst i've ever seen are v6 mustang drivers. (also usually very young)

true rick, i have been to the tracks and the crx's doin 8's sounded like a weed wacker, but i prefer silencers, and a rotary doesnt sound like those! but really i can appreciate a sick v8 on the tracks, ive been to 1/4 mile runs and they are loud. i like to be silent so i dont get attention from cops. my car is also hungry, 14 miles a gallon when driven hard (which is all the time) people like different things for different reasons.some people are just cocky in general, i think that sums it up

If you whant to talk this way fine!
Losing because of tire spin that's funny the reason V-8s spin is from to much power tryin' to plant to the ground, and when imports spin well, they dumped the clutch a little high don't you think. but that is just me and what do i know i'm only 16

Well, that's not true I started this thread and I didn't want people to think that i am a cocky 16 year old sophmore with a 12 second mustang. Because thats not why i started this. It was a simple question

It aint just the import drivers... I've seen assholes in $200 dollar beaters with a $2000 dollar stereo system pull the same shit. With all the other problems in the world we should'nt have to worry about kids (or 28 year olds with an adolecent complex) running everyone else off the road...BUT...Nothing makes me smile more than smoking some little shit's (with his bee-yotch in the passenger seat) ass off the line at a red light.....heh heh heh! :naughty:

^ true also. All the cars i've seen with sound systems are usually going real slow to show off there bass systems, or real fast to get more attention. I used to own a $2000 mtx(801d amp/ 9500subs 12s)infinity (6x9/6-3/4)system until my second semester in college. I needed money for my books and part of my tuition. I don't feel bad because when I am finished with school it will pay off. And about the mustangs, i find that to be truth too a certain extent. Alot of parents around here buy their kids a mustangs/cavailers/accords/civics for their first car. that is where i think some of the cockiness comes from on both sides. I don't take sides because I own (owned) a domestics (grand am-used to , stratus) and imports (eclipse)

Have you not read a single post because your still drunk off stereotypes? Both imports, and american cars have traction trouble. What in the hell makes you think all import drivers dump their clutch from one million rpm's on the launch? If you think RWD V-8's have problems with traction try geting traction with a boosted fwd import, and by all means there are v-8's with the same problems. QUIT GENERALIZING IMPORTS TO SHITTY DRIVERS!!!!!

one day I was driving along (in my civic) not being cocky like all the other guys in my town. And some guy pulls up beside me with audiobahn stickers all over it. So I had my decals in the back of my car and picked one up and pointed at him and then to the decal and gave him a thumbs up. He did the little gangster hide behind your arm thing and sped off. Now I dono if I'm gay or something but if I was that guy I would have gave a thumbs up back...but thats just me

I thought someone locked this thread already :wtf:, Anyway keep the flaming down guys and show you can make a point without reverting to name calling or getting hostile. Also to add to the topic. Cocky people own the car, I am sure they were cocky before they had there car and I am sure they will be cocky after they get rid of it. I have met just as many nothing can ever take my old school muscle car as once my nos kicks in your gone new school racers. It all even's out but all of us are a little cocky , on each side lets not fool ourselves :disappoin. Let play nice and let this thread live.

But in MY TOWN it is the really slow cars that are the most cocky now explain that?

i say because nobody wants to admit to having a slow car. I would because I can't prove that it is fast. Also it depends on what you call "slow"
I know a guy that claims his car is fast. 88 camry. well his car is fast compared to that shitty ass 88 (i think) nova he was racing.

well i live in virginia and there are as many cocky imports as muscle cars. And there are alot more slow ricers here but it has to do with the person and what they think is cool like alot of ppl think rims body kits and exaust are cool and still try to race ppl and wow i spank them left and right but also there are some WRX's that will spank any V8 iv seen off the line with there all wheel drive. And like me i dont really care about the 1/4 mile i like some backrouds in the middle of no were and taking some turns. And i would like to see some V8's keep up while im mashing the gas around a turn.

My brothers 96 mustang GT can handle the corners pretty well. It will go around are track by an extra 20 MPH over my dads 2004 Mach 1. So that means mustangs can still go thru the turns just as fast as the tuner cars
