rough startup and oil

when i start the car (89 dx) after it has sat for a few hours, sometimes the fuel pump wont prime, so i turn the key back and forth untill it eventually goes (any ideas as to why that one is would be nice) then when the car finally starts, its idel is extreamly rough, i have to hold the gas atleast a qtr way down to keep it going, it almost sounds and feels like a miss, and during this time its burning oil like a bitch, are my rings (or atleast one of them) finally shot and need replaced? or could this be something else also? thanks in advanced for all help

when you try and start it, does the lights light up and everything ? or does nothing electrical work when you try and start it ?

EVERYTHING comes on, seat belt buzzer, check engin, radio, and heater, only thing that sometimes doesnt, is the fp, and if that happens, its not going to start, there wasnt a prime... even if i turn everything off, it still runs rough, but, my alt is starting to go, i hear it in there, and when i get on 'er the lights will brighten up
