High pitched sound

For about a year, maybe a year and a half now, My 2001 Jetta will emit a high pitched sound, not far from the sound a jet engine makes. It doesn't do it constantly, it seems just when it's just turned on or has been going and comes to a stop. It hasn't caused any problems other than the noise, which is kinda neat in the right circumstances (going to school at 6am in the morning is not one of those). Has anyone else had this?

When I start my 99 Jetta, I get a cat like sound lasting about 1 second. Is this the same problem because that is why I came to this thread. My drivers side heated seat also doesn't work but I guess that is for a different thread.

That sound you hear right after you start you car that sounds like a cat is your starter- wont go away till you replace it with a new one.
Could be a serpentine belt tensioner or roller making the noise all the time.

It usually lasts 5-10 seconds, and it seems to be random.

Yeah, my 2001 Jetta has the same type of noise you're talking about only when right after i start it and taking off, or coming to a stop as well. I jus realized it though, not sure if its been going on.
