I have a 99 2.0L Escort SE, and I recently had my transmission replaced(Last week). Since I got it back from the shop, there is a chirpping noise coming from the front right side of the car. It scared my wife, she thought there was a bug under her seat, or a mouse. After a few tests while driving, I found that it only seems to squeek when I coast, or when I'm pushing the gas just enough to stay at the same speed. I haven't noticed it squeek over 45mph. Any ideas what it could be? It did not chirp at all before the new transmission was put in.
Any info would be appreciated.

Does it happen for a second after the car has been turned off?

I'll check on my lunch break and let you know, I don't think that it does though. It doesn't squeek at all when I'm stopped, just when I'm moving. It's not a loud chirp either, it's subtle, like having a cricket in the glove compartment (as my wife thought).

sounds to me like a belt, or a bearing somewhere, possibly belt tensioner.

If it does it after the engine is off it is the crankcase breather filter. It is a $15 part from the dealer and takes about 2 minutes to replace. I went through 2 belts, an alternator, and several other things for over $500 total to fix a $15 part. Mine would make the noise at idle and slow speeds and for a second after the engine was shut off.

But since yours is a SE I could be wrong, I have a 98 ZX2.
