:banghead: I have a 97 explorer xlt awd with the 5.0 and it has a sticky acclerator pedal, sometimes normal and sometimes hard. Are there any ways to lube it or is replacement best?

I believe there was a recall for that problem. I have a 97 explorer sport that had a recall on the throtle body cable which was causing the pedal to stick. Hope this helps you

Had the same problem early in my 1997 Explorer's life. Ford replaced the throttle body (per their recall) and all was okay. Now have 70k + and the throttle started sticking again. Found a build-up of carbon on the edge of the throttle plate itself. Cleaned this off with some spray "carb cleaner" and a toothbrush. Works great now - no sticking. Also checked the cable and it was smooth. DO NOT attempt to disassemble the throttle plate from the shaft for cleaning. You'll never get it adjusted properly again (past experience with carbs). And don't use a sharp object (ie: screwdriver) to scrape the carbon off the edge of the throttle plate. Scratches or gouges will cause rough idle. Just use the spray cleaner & toothbrush with lots of patience.
