Illegal immigrants don't demand free medical care, they get the same free care that any other freeloader gets. They show up at an ER and they are never refused treatment. However, because they are here illegally, they don't pay into the tax base to help offset the cost of different services they end up getting.

This has nothing to do with illegal immigrants. There is nothing wrong with a large tax base of non English speakers getting official documents in their language. They're paying the bills as well. I do think its in everyones best intrest to learn the native language (English in this case), but its not unreasonable to get what you want for the money you pay.

Nobody who can speak English in the states goes around not speaking it :rolleyes: In fact, you'll find most children have to speak their folks native language at home or they'll not speak it at all (a few coworkers are having that problem with their children Mexicans and Russians)

No illegal immigrant is making those damands. If there is a large tax base, then I'd expect the local school systems to take that into account when building their course schedules.

I can agree with that sentiment. No illegal person in this country should be given a lisence. They should be shipped back to where they came from and let them enter legally. (Though the legal system needs some major streamlining)

Yogs- Bro, I think it's a matter of dillution of finite resources that folks here are talking about. It's like having a big family and the salary doesn't go as far as the same amount with a small family. In LA a couple of hospitals have gone broke and closed due in great part to illegals not having the $$ to pay. Of course there's plenty of deadbeat gringos too!

My wife works in educational administration. California school's various literacy, math and other test scores rank us at the bottom of all states. The secret conclusion after studying the problem is the immigrant influx. My wife is from Mexico and is a legal US citizen. I speak Spanish and have spent lots of time in Mexico and Central America.

You are right the kids always rise to the top though. They learn a foreign language in no time and are bi-lingual quickly. The tests reflect a poor school system that they're coming from in their countries of origin not stupidity.

My daughter is a teacher and at her school and the others in the district like 18 out of 20 kids per class are Latinios. They're building more schools due to the illegal influx.

I can tell you 100% for sure that if you live in the Southwest you will find Spanish speakers that can not speak English and do not want to learn since the states compensate with drivers test in Spanish and there languages and damn near everything in print translated on back everywhere.

When I am in a Spanish speaking country I don't expect people to speak English except at tourist centers. And then they know a little of several languages.

One thing that was stated is true- you cannot get into other countries illegally and tap into government resources. I can tell you that 1st hand from experiences in Mexico. Being there legally you can't even get work permits or any type of benefit of any sort.

I worked many years in outside sales calling on markets, liquor stores, 7-11s etc. I have found the Asian immigrants learn English immediatly and then learn Spanish as a 3rd language in order to communicate with Latinos who just won't bother!

You neighbor to the south, Detroit, has a large Arab population that mostly speak English. A few very old people don't but the average working age man and woman do. I worked for a company in Detroit a decade ago.

In Southern California and much of the Southwest Latinos just don't bother to learn the language and can survive because people in vital industries are required to so they can deal with them.- Police, Fire health workers etc. They may not all be legally required to but they will hire a bi-lingual over an only English person.

My wife will not deal with it either. When someone speaks to her in Spanish she answers in English and forces them to use their limited English. It's in their best interest to be bi-lingual too.

It's a can of worms for sure.

Here in NYC, we have if I am not mistaken almost every language represented. The majority of the city run hospitals as well as private ones, offer services, brochures, treatment in the language of the patient. The marjority of which are English, Spanish, Cantonese, Arabic, Jewish and a few more. Depending on the population that the hospital or community service (cops, fire, etc) the service resides in will naturally be more catered to the population in the area it serves.

I agree with Yogs as well, whats so wrong with displaying your flag from your original country that you came from. Every American can display their U.S.A flag anytime anywhere, why can't the Mexicans with their flag, why can't the Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Spaniards, Brazialian, Irish, West indians. Its funny, but even though I was born in the states and I am considered mostly hispanic, my parents did not force me to speak spanish at home. I wish they did. That way I would not have to struggle with it so much in school. The problems with the USA is that the arrogant mentalilty goes that you only have to speak English, but there are alot of languages and if I am not mistaken one or two that have more people speaking other than English. So yes, its the universal language of Business but I think the citizens should be taught another languages like they do in Europe and Asia. Interesting, I do not see that in the school system.
As for the drivers licenses, I agree. No person should be given a license that is here illegally. And the test should be given in English solely for the purposes that most of the signs are in English. Giving a drivers license to me is a courtesy, not a right. If you pass the tests and prove you have insurance and are legal then you get the license, otherwise, sorry take the bus or train.

As for complaining about it, your only recourse is to get politically involved and try to get laws in your favor, but I warn you, it will be an uphill battle solely because this great nation of ours,the USA, is made of of immigrants that at one time or another went through the same process of coming into this country, adapting to its culture, style and laws and never forgetting where they came from and the hardships they had to go through to be where they are now.

As for the original poster post. I find it ironic that the poster is Indian, with India as his origin making a post about mexicans. Especially considering the constant hardships that Indians (from India) face in the USA with the constant racial slurs and problems thrown at them. you know, this thread is alittle old but im going to bring it back up here for a minute.

reading TIME magazine, i read an article on illegal immigration. over 2 million illegal immigrants come into this country illegally every year, hundreds...pouring across the boarders, and terrorizing the boardering towns on the united states side. it is SO easy to get in through mexico, that one of the things they discussed in my TIME was that the government was now realizing that mexico is a perfect entrance for al queda, and other terrorist organizations (shit...i sound like bush in that sentance). now...i for one am not happy with that.

i grew up in san diego. i had a mexican maid. we hired mexicans to do our land scaping, trying to help them get alittle bit of money....the american way. working your ass off for it. just recently i had a discussion about this topic with my dad. he said that not only has crime gone up with the immigration, but taxes as well. like someone else pointed out, illegal immigrants dont pay taxes...so they dont offset the care we provide money wise. IMO our country is rotting from the inside out, we as americans can barley take care of ourselves right now, and we are letting the entire fucking world into our country and freeload off of us. im sick of it. honestly, i think that until you can fix problems that the americans have, close the fucking book. our government has decided to take sides in the war on immigration, americans get the backseat while immigrants get preferential treatment. why? no seriously...can anybody explain that for me? fuck it.

Dude, all I know is that the pro-illegal immigration people keep saying they take jobs Americans don't want. I did many of the jobs they do when I was young. Working as a busboy, dishwasher, car detailer or car washer were never meant to be jobs that can support a family. They were kids 1st jobs and a little money for their expenses when they lived at home.

one solution ive come up with for fixing this "employment" and immigration issue, is to make it a federal law that says illegal aliens have to be paid minnimum wage. think about it. if we are forced to pay illegals and legals the same pay, there is now no longer an incentive to hire the illegal over the legal citizen. it will be twice as hard for them to find work, because now they are faced with what americans are faced with......fighting for a job. and if you have no skills whatso ever other than making a mean burrito, they would eventually stop comming over the boarder because they might as well stay at home and work in mexico.

if you didnt read throughly, im not against mexicans or anything, i just think that we should fix americas problems before we let more problems walk across our boarders.

The real key is to let everyone in who wants to work and get their buts (and their employers) on the tax role the same way the rest of us are.

One thing about illegal immigrants is that they will work for cheap. If it werent for them, at least in more southern states, the cost of building a house would skyrocket, prices of fruit/vegetables would jump through the roof, etc. Most ILLEGAL immigrants wont work at a place like wal mart or some organized company, why? Because of that pesky box on an application that says Are you a legal citizen of the us? Yes or No.
Due to the cheap labor costs, illegal immigrants are able to give most americans a higher quality of life. A friend of mine owns a sod farm that has been in his family, if it werent for his ability to be able to drive up in a trailer park, honk the horn, hold out the number of fingers for the number of people he needed, have them hop in the back of his truck and go to work he might be better off working at a time saver.

Minnimum wage requirements for illegal immigrants is crap, dont get me wrong im all about helping my fellow man but the fact remains that they are still able to make more here than in mexico for example, which is why they risk coming over here.

I had all those jobs in that age bracket. In Ft. Smith Arkansas in the 1960-70s for example there were no non-Arky gardeners or landscapers. All the folks that worked in restuarants in South Dakota were gringos. In St. Louis during the same era there were no foreign illegals doing anything at all in any jobs.

All this of today is felt more in the Southwest. There are immigrants in other locales of the country but in much less density than the Southwest.

All I can say regarding the matter is this: When I worked out in Colorado after college, my entire staff was Mexican and I suspect, not exactly legal. These guys worked harder, longer and for far less money than any employees I have ever had the pleasure of working with since. They learned the language well and were wonderful, honest people. I never heard a complaint. Most of their meager paychecks went back to Mexico to support their families. Sure, I would prefer if immigrants would enter legally- but if you ask me, these people deserved every penny we gave them. I'd rather support hard working illegals than lazy, deadbeat welfare-guzzling Americans any day of the week.

The one big problem with that is simple. You cant make a law with rules regarding illegal people. Some employers might do it out of the goodness of their hearts but it cant be made mandatory. Its almost like saying you can rob someone as long as you dont take over 10 bucks.

I go to college full-time in the morning and full-time at work during the nights. As an immigrant to this country my family has learned to work for anything you want because no one will give it to you. Most North Ammerican children don't understand this because they grow up having everything paid for by their parents.

Getting back to the topic of the thread, I think it is wrong to have an illegal immigrant working ANY job. If I'm not mistaken, they get paid under the table so in essence they give nothing back to the lpace they live. Either let them work and make them pay the same taxes as normal citizens or make immigration easier.

^ same here. except i know lots of parents who do everything for their siblings (nothing wrong there) but for people like me, everything i now own i bought it because my parents have there own problems. which proves that money is gonna be hard to earn at any age so why don't they just make their children work (legally)? Sorry im just rambling because there was this girl who used to work at my job who didnt have to pay for a damn thing! At 21 years old not a damn thing! Her parents pay for her new car, insurance, cell phone, food, college, dorm, gas, clothes, even plane tickets! why can't i get benefits like that?

As for illegals not paying taxes, while a lot don't, there are alot that do. The ones that try to get a working status do get a EIN number from the IRS to get a working visa and do end up paying taxes at the end of the year. Plus if I am not mistaken these illegals folks are not walking around naked. They do go out and buy clothes and food and other items which have a state sales tax (in some states), so in reality one cannot say that they do not pay taxes. True its not like the big IRS taxes, but its taxes nonetheless.

Different countries, different rules.

People come to the US as it offers a better life. Some of them don't pay attention to the legal/illegal boundary, as it doesn't matter to them whether or not their following some arbitrary rules, much like me on the highway - the speed limit is arbitrarily set and subject to my interpretation. So it seems with the illegals, they may see that the rules don't really apply to them, they're just working.
