I own a used 99 Grand Am Se

I own a 99 Grand Am Se with the sports package. I would like to know if there has been any recalls on them?Exspecially for the electric system.The reason I ask this is because Ithe dome light seems to come on when it feels like it , while I am driving the gages sometimes jump from where they are suppose to be to zero then back again, also the volume of the stereo seems to be very senstive.Meaning when I want to turn the volume down it goes up.Other then those problems I have enjoyed my Grand Am Se very much.

for the radio it sounds like the contacts behind the control knob for the volume is dirty causing the spikes in volume. My moms car did the same thing you would just barely touch it and the radio would either blast or not work at all. Other then pulling the radio apart and spraying contact cleaner. Try turning the knob back and forth with the car off and radio off, it might dislodge some dirt on the contacts ( if this is the problem)

You may also want to have the alternator looked at, My 96 GAGT was acting up similar to yours [guages jumping] when my alt. was starting to go bad. I don't know if this is your problem or not, just a thought. As for the dome light, does it seem to happen on a rough surface? If so it could be a faulty door plunger or a short in the wires to the dome light. It could also be the interior light switch, the one that brightens the dash lights and turns on the dome light. try to darken the dash lights a little ad see if it cuts down on the frequency of the dome light coming on. If you have it set to the brightest position it may be close enough to the end that it is causing it to come on. If dimming the dash lights workd you may have a bad dimmer switch.
