When it comes to people driving and talking on their cell phones, we've all got stories of near misses. I know this will probably get towed because it's off-topic, but if you feel as strongly as I do please sign this petition.

My feelings as far as cell phones and driving is..it's okay as long as you're not driving down the road having a conversation. I'll grab my phone and call my friend or something and be like 'where you at?' 'okay' 'see you soon'. or something like that. No more than a minute conversation. I think that's the only time it's acceptable..and even then it's pushing it.

Would this mean you'd be able to use bluetooth / hands free? Not to be a dick but I couldn't sign it because I have done it mulitple myself. Theres so many drivers that do it I don't think a law would make a difference besides just giving a reason for A-Hole cops to pull people over.

I figure these people are going to talk on their phone no matter what. Now if a law gets passed their going to be focused on looking for cops as well as talking on a cell phone which makes it just as unsafe IMO. I'm not saying its safe to drive with a cellphone conversation going, but I wouldn't sign it mainly because I would be a hypocrite. BTW I only make phone calls on open roads, and backed up traffic otherwise I don't bother.

I'm not against talking on cell phones while driving. That needs to happen from a business perspective IMHO. The problem is hand held cell phones. You have only one hand on the wheel, people don't turn their head, they look at their phones to check their signal strength, etc. With hands free phone at least you free up both hands if nothing else.

Something needs to be done. I'm so sick of the shit I see on a daily basis so I decided to try and do something about it. I know a lot of people agree with me so I need your help if you do.

Here in Utah, it's alright to talk and drive on your cell phone. But you can't do so going 65+ mph. But other than that, I myself don't do it that often. Mostly at stop lights, or hardly ever at all. L8...

should be a crime even hands free* dunno how you'd get caught* your short on movement holding a phone and if hands free your still thinking about the convo not the road.

Cell phones conversations should be cut off after 5 minutes of talking while being used in a car. No need to talk about anything and everything while driving home.

I have to admit that I'm the worst when it comes to this...I live and die by my cell phone(whoa, no pun intended)...I've even texted before while I was driving :(

Sad, I hate when people are on the cell when driving...they have little clue of whats going on around them...mostly women are the ones that can't do the two together too well...its almost as bad as driving drunk.

I'm pretty safe though, because I prioritize...when I talk on my cell phone when I'm driving, it's more like my driving is detracting from my phone conversation, not my phone conversation is detracting from my driving...only thing that's different is I have one less hand to drive with.

Then by your point, it'd be a crime to talk to your passengers. Cause you're still thinking about the convo right? ;)

Hands free is fine, although I've got a Nextel so most of the time I'm just beeping the Boss (Mom). My phone convo's aren't usually more than a minute long if that.

I hate talking on the phone period, so I keep things short and sweet. Usually not even sweet, just short.

i seen so many distracted people on the road..and i always wondered why the hell are thy driving so slow. so i hop in the other lane and look...oh! that damn cell phone road hoggin biotch. I've seen a cell phone driver that caused a mini rush hour traffic jam. She didn't even know until she got off the phone. it was a one lane/way road. Some cell phoners don't even know there speed drops more than 5mph when they talk. which is a big hold up for people who are not even in a hurry.

also this is more of a off-topic/stress release thread.

Well, being a modern 20 something, I too live and die by my cell phone. I give the number out as my home number, buisness number, everything. And I talk on my phone while driving all the time. The thing is, the only accident I've been in on the road, my cell phone wasn't involved. Personally, I wouldn't sign this, I think that all its gonna do is piss people off, like when you get those BS 10mile over the limit tickets, or parking tickets.

And I mean, with all due respect guys, this is the street racing forums, traffic safty, while it may be a high priority, obvisouly isn't rule number one. Considering some of the speeds we've all bragged about hitting on public roads, regardless of traffic levels, I think cell phones are the least of peoples worries. Anyways, I've always been of the school that if your gonna get into an accident, its gonna happen regardless of what preiphrials are involved. This of course comming from a kid who has had entire convorsations using a txt messenger on a cellphone...At one point two summers back, I actually had the location of all teh buttons and patterns memorized, so I could litteraly type out a TM in a few seconds without even taking my eyes off the road.

I feel that people should put safety first. But I think it's a waste of my time to sign this, becuase I don't think that these online petitions go anywhere. Someone from africa and other places that have absolutely nothing to do with the petition could be signing this, and really, it makes no difference to him/her whether the law gets passed or not.

I'm with dampachi here.

No need to conversate as long as you cn, keep it short.
And when it's a really important call i try to pull over and then conversate further.

That's just my :2cents:

Its already illegal in new york to use the phone while driving (you can get ticketed). well you can use it but you have to use the headset.

i think speakerphone works well too.

Some people might need to take a call when they are driving. I think people misuse that tho. I mean, some people have there windows open, I hear what there babling about...Its more stupid then clicking a barney and teletubies sex scandal (http://google.com) link...
