heater problems

I have a 99 Grand Am with a 2.4 liter engine, automatic transmission. The other day I went outside to start my car, turned on the heat and it would not work. There have never been any problems with the heater before this. My husband has worked on the car for like two days. He says he has checked the fuses, the blower motor, the resistor. Can anybody tell me what they think is wrong?

Is the blower working at any speeds? If he has checked the fuses, resistor and blower motor you may have a bad fan speed switch.

Does the fan blow on the cold side? or the a/c side?. If not then its a problem with your fan relay box. Also welcome to the forum.

I dont think the blower works at any speeds. How do you check if the fan speed switch is bad?
I think he has already checked the fan relay box, but I will tell him.

He will have to pull the control head to get to the back of the switch. Once he gets there he can use a test light to see where the power in is, then he cancheck the other wires to see if there is power going out. If he only gets power on one wire then I would assume that the switch is bad. Someone else may be able to elaborate on how to test the switch.

I went and bought the fan speed switch and my husband just came in and said it didnt work. I just wasted like $112.00 on it. I hate to not trust his mechanical skills but I believe I am taking it to the garage unless he can fix it tonight. So maybe it could be something else??? I dont know.
