Hey all,Im new to the forum(so new i dont have my truck yet).Rite now im looking at a silver xe but cant decide wether to get the s/c or not. I have test drove them both and the s/c way more of a kick then the 170hp v6. Is it worth the extra money in price and in gas to go with the s/c.....also keep in mind that this is the daily rider for my wife...(blah)I get to take the bus and subway into the city:mad: ....but thats another issue....so what do u guys think.
thanks for any advice u have to offer

Does your wife need the extra HP to get groceries? You know better than we do if you can afford the extra cost of the engine and premium gas. You don't say where you are in New York, (state or the city), but if you're in the city how often are you going to open up the engine enough to use the SC?

Like Schlud said, you know how the money is going to affect you more then we do.
Regardless I'd say just go with the 170hp engine.
It won't beat sports cars in the quarter mile mile but its an SUV not a sports car.
170hp is enough to get you out into traffic without much problem. The only time you'll want more power is when you're impatient, and then its better not to be driving anyway.:bloated:

If I had the choice I would buy the supercharged version, but I would love to have the 240 hp Pathy motor instead. Any additional power is a good thing for the X, I am use to the power Nissan trucks typically have so I am not disappointed but if an option was available in 2000 I would have went for it.

Two different dealers talked me out of the S/C when I bought my 2002 XE 2 weeks ago. They both said it was more maintenance, more gas, and you have to use Premium fuel.
I also read a review on the S/C Xterra, and the biggest complaint was the 13MPG the vehicle got. I'm not sure if that's typical, but wow.
I traded in a 190HP Tacoma for the Xterra. I've been quite happy with the 170HP motor thus far. My buddy rode in it with me and said it felt like it had more grunt that my Taco did. Maybe it's the auto tranny that's making the difference.

Yeah, gas is at $1.35 for regular right now. What's premium at nowadays $1.55? Keep in mind what kind of driving the truck will see most of the time. If it's just commuting, or sitting in traffic that's a lot of cash just to idle.

I test drove both as well and I bought the SC model and I love it. On average I am starting to push 15 mpg as my average now that the engine is starting to be broken in and I think I will still get more. It is up to you but I wouldn't change my mind.

Personal choice. I thought the SC was just noiser when I drove it. I didnt notice any real gain. Still - it might be cool to have as an "accessory." Depends on your wallet though :D
