Hello,
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer! I would like to know that does 4x4 Low means - does that mean, that using that position I am using FRONT-Wheel Drive? Or is there front-wheel drive ( maybe Auto 4x4 )! Sorry, if it's a stupid question!

4x4 low means the transfer case has been moved to a lower gear setting to give more pulling power. It is used only when the auto4wd or 4wd hi will not help you.

4 x 4 LOW is to be used off road or in snow, and only at speeds under 40 MPH. as mentioned this truck has a hi- lo gear extra transmission (transfer case) and that is what it is for.
