I have finally found a way to make CF look good and made a tutorial.
1. Get your starting photo:

2. Create a new document, size = 2 pixels wide 1 pixel deep.
press Ctrl + 0 to zoom in to the correct size.
3. Grab the gradient tool and fill from left to right.
4. go to Edit+define pattern, save as carbon fiber.
5. select the "carbonised" area with the lasso tool.
6. Go to edit + fill... select carbon pattern and opacity= 75%
option= darken. desaturate by pressing Ctrl+Shift+U then go to image + adjustments + brightness/contrast.
7. darkeness to -50 then filter + blur + motion blur.
set the percent to 1 pixel.
6. fill the area again with the pattern as before but set the opacity to 50%
the finished product :

Thats a lot better than your first one. But remember, the weave of carbon fiber doesn not go straight up and down. Also, try and add some twirl for a nice effect.
