Hi
Working on '85 S-10 2.8L
Loud clanking and almost stalling that is occuring about every 1-4 minutes.
Sounds like front bottom of engine.
Engine runs smooth when the problem stops.
I'm not an engine rebuilder and am unfamiliar with engine noises so I have no clue, thinking timing chain though.
Thanks,
Terri

how many miles on the motor? maybe a rod or a bearing. hows the oil pressure?sounds terminal- 2.8 always seem to have problems with the bottom end. start looking for a new motor.

I hope not, but your 2.8L has bad bearings to start with, so ALMB~Nova is probably right.
If you do have to re-build it DON'T
Get a Comaro 3.4L it's a better motor that will bolt right in with very few mods
