i have a friend who has a stealth and whenever his give is gas(going about 15-20 mph) coming from a complete stop the brake light will come one and the car will hold back in a way then the brake light will turn off and the car will jerk and take off. anyone know what is causing it to lock up in a way then take off? .....any help would be great..thanks

The reason for the brake light is because its low of fluid. When he punches i the fluid drops back and causes the sensor to read the fluid is low for a second. As for the hesitation issue, its completely unrelated to the brake light but it could be a host of things. He might need a tune up or something.

Stealthee is right. They are non-related. The brake light is from low brake fluid, so either his pads are getting near the point of needing to be replaced or he has a leak in his brake system.

The slow acceleration...basic tuneup is the best answer, start with the filters and plugs and go from there. That is, if he isn't getting any Check Engine lights, if he is, he should go to Autozone and have them scan his ECU for free.

don't mean to hijack the thread...but have any of you ever gotten your codes checked at Autozone? i know they do it for free, and i've gotten it done on my friends' cars (domestics), but for mine they said they didn't have the adapter connection, and that it would cost a couple hundred to order, so i was better off just taking it to a shop/dealership. so have any of you actually gotten autozone to read the codes from your 3S?

91-93 can be read just using a analog volt meter. Its pretty simple. You basically turn it on and touch one probe to pin 1 and the other to pin 12 then turn the car to acc and count the sweeps. There are a bunch on different posts on 3si giving exact directions and the actual codes. For 3s's the only ones they can actually read codes on is 96+.

like what filters should i tell him to replace? and u guys said they are not related but i dont understand why they arent. ok this is what is happening exactly- ok if he goes really slow from a stop it wont happen but if he punches it from a stop the brake like and the hesitation will happen at about 15-20 mph then it will take a sec then the light will shut off then it will jerk and go back to its normal driving...so hope that helped any , idk im just tryin to be real specific....thanks for all the help

Well if you want, put hte car on 4 jackstands and rotate the wheels, and see if the rotors are being held up by any brake parts...but I'm telling you the 2 problems have NOTHING to do with each other.

The brake light is an indicator that your brake fluid is low...this happens when you
A) have a leak
B) have worn pads that are in need of replacing...when your pads get worn down, the piston in the caliper needs to push them out further so they make the same stopping force when you push the brake pedal...when the piston pushes out further, more brake fluid fills the pistons old position...this fluid comes from the brake fluid reseviour. Over time, it gets to the point where so much fluid has left the reseviour, that a sensor in there realizes it is dry and signals the light.

However, if the reseviour isn't completely dry, but low, When you floor it, momentum causes the fluid in the reseviour to surge towards the back of the reseviour...the sensor is in the front...so at that exact instant when you floor it, the sensor thinks you are lower in fluid than you acutally are...it lights up, but then in a few seconds, the fluid evens out again, and the light goes off.

Trust me, his pads are low, and so is his brake fluid level.

Now for accelaration, what stealth does he have, does he have the twin turbo stealth? Is it stock or modded, if modded, what does he have? Does he have any lights on his dash that say "CHECK ENGINE"?
If he is stock and has no check engine light, then it sounds like he needs a tuneup, start with getting new spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter. Also how many miles are on his car...does he do routine maintaince?
