i know the type r has 195hp to the crank, and the gsr has 170hp, so which car is the better project car. the type r or the gsr.

If your buying the engine, I'd go with the GS-R. The only difference in the engine is cams and pistons which will be changed out anyway if your building it up.

If your buying the whole car, I would go with the Type R. Better in almost every way.

It really depends on what you are going to use the car for.

im buying the whole car. do the cars hold different maximum boost levels or something. ex. the 2001 eclipse rs holds more boost than the gt. and im looking for a car with more room to work with, like body kits, turbos, pistons, cams, etc.

IF you are going to leave it stock, get the ITR, it's kind of like modifying a Lamborguni (sp?), It is the b est of the best from the factory. If you are going to mod it, then go with the LS or GSR. GSR for n/a and LS for turbo.

No, the moling is different, the GSR is duel IM runner, and IMO, it doesn't flow as well. The GSR cams are not as hot, and the comp are also not as hot.

this is only what i would do so use it or not this is just what i would do i would find a 94LS obd1 for some were around 5g's the money i would have saved from not buying a type R i could build and boost and hope to see high 12's low 13's if your in to drag racing anyway

i read in a book somewhere that the itr doesn't handle bolt-on's as well as the gsr, is this true.

it will handle them just as well, difference being though that the type R already has freer flowing better engineered parts than the gs-r therefore you would see a bigger gain from an intake on a gs-r than on a type R BUT the type R already has a 25 more Hp stock soo you do the math.

for example: 170+5 or 195+3 you choose

also i heard all you need for the gsr to be faster than the itr is new cams shafts, and cam gears.

possible I suppose BUT the Type R has a much better suspension and an LSD in the tranny so even if you make the gs-r faster it will still not have the handling characteristics of the R.

Also, The Itr Is 1000 Lbs Lighter Than The Gsr. If You Don't Care About Additional Accessories Like Cruise Control, Sunroof, Etc, Than The Itr Is Something To Look Into, I Actually Think The Type R Looks Better Without All The Extra Trim, But I Do Love My Extra Accessories.

HAHAHA 1000lbs? please its like 200 lbs lighter if that. My gs-r weighs in at 2556lbs if an ITR was 1000lbs lights that would make it 1556lbs which I highly doubt there are any mainstream production cars even under 1900lbs.

Type R is way nicer! inside and out i like the looks, as for the performance, 195 vs 170, but just having a type R would be sweet.

I agree with the former mentioned "it depends on your intentions."

If you are per say boosting the car, then I say dont waste the money on the type r. I have never myself been partial to the type r (aside from the jdm type r). I want a sunroof, and thats not an option for the type R, so you will be looking at adding that aftermarkt if you want it.

Just one of the little things I dont care for.
If not staying mainstream is your goal, far les people have type r's. Is it worth the money difference though? There are several wasyt to make that 25hp up and more that cost much less.

*something to think about.
