So that's all we have contributed to the world is war huh? Widen your gaze a bit. This war will pass as all wars do. Hopefully it will pass soon and something good will come from it. When it finally does end hopefully we will be able to mend some fences. I doubt some people will ever look favorably at the US.(this includes citizens of the US) It's just not in their nature. Frankly it's not in my nature to care how they feel about us. I will continue to live the life I have built in what I consider the greatest nation on earth and be content in the knowlege that I'm not them and that I don't have to spend my life consumed in the disdain of others. We have made mistakes and we will continue to make mistakes. We are human. Hopefully we will learn from them and hopefully the mistakes we make don't cause too much misery to others. When it does hopefully we will strive to give comfort to them and somehow attempt to make it right. Hopefully.

There sure are a lot of "hopefullys" in there DGB...

And as a person of strong faith, I would expect you to have the slightest compassion for all others, not just American others. Being content and safe in our beds (if you'd like to believe we are) while our government in running amok, invading, accusing, fabricating stories, burning bridges in the name of afore mentioned security is absolutely deplorable and inexcusable. As a superpower MORE is expected in terms of leadership and example- and we are not rising to the occasion. Of course you have the right to care about yourself, your life, your family-but not the right to disregard those of others. Yes, humans make mistakes. Noble humans acknowledge them and strive to take corrective measures. I see hints of that compassion buried under your defense, DGB- and I respect you for it. Deny if you will... :)

And as for you, Twitch-
The fact that other countries have made stupid mistakes is not a license to be reckless and asinine. But I have no interest in debating this issue, or any other with you. You lost my respect completely and thoroughly the minute I read your flippant "Nuke em' all till they glow" (or some similar tripe) bullshit. If you hadn't fought in Vietnam, I would have thought you surely to be just another foolish and imprudent teenager. I won't expect you to have any shame- and you don't expect ME to pay you any earnest regard, deal? Quite frankly, the fact you have children scares the hell out of me. And if you have any intention of throwing insults my way, you may save your breath as you've already insulted my heritage. You see, I am French, mon ami...

Unfortunately your just another guy that's bought into the paranoia and believes your mother country is akin to Stailn's Russia full of purposeful evil. I don't care what you think of me. And since it will never be unanimous what the rest of the world thinks of the US I don't care about that either. And frankly none of our past leaders ever did either. When did ot become a popularity contest what a bunch of backwater countries think anyhow? I'm glad you're scared of my kids. You should be. They're both fine shots with .357s too. Save the drama for your mama. Ain't nothing you can do to me boy. I've done my time in hell.

LOL, I love the ideology that I served tim in 'Nam and survived so I'm untouchable. He isn't scared of your children, he's scared at the thought that people like yuo are allowed to breed.

If the US keeps this "I don't care what the world thinks of us" attitude, next time they get attacked, expect the same "we don't care" attitude from them.

Well I can't force people to do my will so all I can do is hope they do the right thing. At least I still have hope. Looks like many here have given up hope. Sad for them.

And as a person of strong faith, I would expect you to have the slightest compassion for all others, not just American others
What does compassion have to do with caring what others think?
I didn't say I didn't care about them did I?

. Being content and safe in our beds (if you'd like to believe we are)
I not only believe I am safe I know I am. I don't live in fear.

while our government in running amok, invading, accusing, fabricating stories,
Well I won't argue your opinion of it but I will say that if you feel that way then get out there and help change it. Personally I'm not pleased with the way some things are going but I don't think I have ever been completely happy with any administration.

burning bridges in the name of afore mentioned security is absolutely deplorable and inexcusable
I guess if you are going to burn bridges it may as well be for security as anything else.
. As a superpower MORE is expected in terms of leadership and example- and we are not rising to the occasion

Name one super power that ever has.

. Of course you have the right to care about yourself, your life, your family-but not the right to disregard those of others.

Actually I do have the right to disreguard the rights of others. I don't have to give a crap about others lives or their rights as long as I don't do them harm. I do however choose to care about their rights and their lives. I just choose not to care what they think of me and mine.

Yes, humans make mistakes. Noble humans acknowledge them and strive to take corrective measures.
Very true. Unfortunatly there are not too many noble humans at the top of any government.

I see hints of that compassion buried under your defense, DGB- and I respect you for it. Deny if you will...
Well I appreciate that. Just don't look too close. It's a little creepy. (j/k)

Quite frankly, the fact you have children scares the hell out of me.

Why would him having children scare you?

So let me be sure I understand you correctly, we say we don't care, but if we are attacked, we suddenly suddenly care that the rest of the world doesn't care? Perhaps you are confused by what "we don't care" really means. Perhaps if its phrased as "we do not care if you care" it might clear it up for your.

He isn't scared of your children, he's scared at the thought that people like yuo are allowed to breed.

I know you're a fascist Raz, but I didn't think even you would go so far.

Well DGB454 In the context it was meant that I don't care what the world thinks is actually this. When you live a few years and life starts throwing things your way you really do begin to care less about external things beside family, friends and you special interests. You've realized that all the talking heads and fast break news stories aren't going to change anything at all that affect your personal life on an ongoing daily basis.

I simply see people wrapped up in the overwhelming paranoia that 'da guvment's out ta git me!"

Blurbs such as"...while our government in running amok, invading, accusing, fabricating stories..." is the same rhetoric from the 60s with very few word changes. And then it was Democrats vs hippies and assorted hangers on.

In retrospective I see this same general harangue against Kennedy all the way through to Bush Jr. with all the rest in between, democratic or republican. It is very tired and I equate it to the propaganda from all the commies of the past, Khruschev, Mao and all the rest. It just sounds like the same song. It isn't even a partisan thing of democratic or republican it's simple anti- government, anti-establishment.

During the cold war it was bitching about the CIA and the FBI. People were fixated on what bad, sneaky people they were and how they should be reined in and how the Eastern Bloc and Red China really wanted to be our friends, or is that comrades? On and on about them. Well as the CIA slowly got emasculated with budget cuts and restrictions of operations from this symphony of complaints along came these wild muthas in turbans that basically hate the entire Western civilization with a goal of returning the world to the time of about 1000AD when they were big time. Yeah they wanted to blow up the Eiffel Tower but that fell through. The French are evil Westerners too. All the same.

So while the FBI and CIA are dickin around surveiling Ozzy Osbourne and such there are serious things transpiring. 911 comes along and everybody says "why didn't the CIA warn us?"

In my life have have seen someone bitching about whatever political administration is in power democrat or republican for decades and decades. It may be of burning interest right now that real or perceived transgressions by the government are affecing you all personally. Hey guess what, they aren't.

Things complicate your life as you moved through it. Some are good and some are bad. When you're pulling a double shift somewhere in an environment of too few work personel you don't have time to imagine plots by the government against Madagascar and frankly you don't care! You got kids at home, bills to pay, cars to get repaired, medical problems, serious illnes in the family, a jerk brother in law hanging out at you house drinking beer and whatever you can imagine from any TV sitcom- only it ain't funny -it's real life! This is where everyone goes with slightly different story lines only.

You ain't gonna care what Madagascar thinks, says or does since it has no bearing on getting the kids to the orthodonist on time, buying groceries, visiting a realtive in a nursing home, cutting the grass, changing the oil in your car and paying household bills. You ain't got time to stand on the corner and hand out phamplets on "Fair Play for Cuba," You got to work 4 extra hours because some other guy is sick.

For whatever faults real or imagined the US government is superb. Countries around the world have sought to model their's after it in part after throwing off the weight of a dictator, monarch or oligarcy.

Politicians have put their foots in their mouths before. I don't care what this guy said to begin this topic said since it's not life altering for anyone here! If it is so serious in anyone's mind that they can't get past it they need to put in into perspective. It's like little kids arguing and what a parent tells them- "just because he called you a butthead doesn't make you one."

Most people do not go through life in any effective way constantly fixated on how others perceive them. Those that do have psychological problems beyond the realm of this forum.

Everybody you meet in life isn't going to like you. Everyone you meet in life isn't going to value your opinion. Everybody you meet in life isn't going to share your passions or interests. Everybody you meet in life isn't going to even respect your point of view.

Is anyone going to remeber what some senator said 100 years from now? Hell no! So why is it so urgent that we indict him and anyone who says "nuke em all" as a statement to illustrate the utter futility of getting all worked up about the subject at all?

If all you look for is the negative that's all you'll find in life. DGB454 you are right in that there is a reflection of living in fear and apprehension of government personnel by many people here. There are myriad governments elsewhere that truly earn the fear and loathing reflected in its citizenry. And these items of contention that are repeatedly brought up about someone in the government or some agency doing something that is, basically, ruining their lives to the point that they can't get around the road block created in their minds is sad. No one and no government will ever live up to the impossible images some people have.

So if I or DGB454 were to say "I don't care what anyone thinks of me," obviously any one reading that doesn't care what we think of them either.

Take a chill pill and put all this silly stuff in the context it belongs.

i understand what you are saying because alot of thing have been blown way out of view. If people spent more time living their own lives and not worrying about goverment issue they think are against them, there would be less bs. you don't have time to be silly if you are living your life as it should be. i said in another post some where.."if there is honestly nothing YOU can do about it, then there is no since worrying about." I lost my money and i want to get it back. Can you get it back? Is is fisible to get it back? That country is pissing me off so i am going to watch and read everything in th news so I can watch them fail so i can be happy instead of livng out a better life withno worries. I don't agree with what bush is doing but, At least somebody is stepping up too the plate and wanting to help them and the rest of the world out. No not everybody agrees with that but, i do. I don't have to worry about it because there are troops paying my debts with that. And if i am call up on I will pay everybody elses debts. I always say nobody want to be killed but things can be restored if somebody is willing to the the risk. at least the U.S.(and other countries) is taking risk to make a difference in the world as opposed to other countries who would be happy with world domination. ie developing WAD. why would yo need to do that? Power. It definately not for protection. Why would you need to blow up a hemi-sphere it make a point. Why would you cause great sickness to people and think that it would win something. tht would make anybody going of wAD a sick motherfucker. Now back to the topic.....what the hell is all of that shit about?
