shift rod hanger

on my 68 bug the shift rod hanger has broken. I am wondering how I get the old one out and if it is hard to replace?

If it's the one right under the shifter lever it's welded in place. The rod must come out the front. It can be a pain to replace as you need to decide whether to drill or just chisel out the spot welds & how to reweld the new hanger in.
