Greetings all. I just purchased a 93 Jimmy 4x4 SLS with the electronic actuated 4 wheel drive. I bought and new it had a 4x4 issue but thought I needed to replace the transfer case, but seems the problem may be simpler so here is where you come in. The syptoms: In 4 wheel, 0-25 no niose. 25-40 little whine, 40mph lots of gear whine folowed by loss of power (motor revs/truck loses momentum). It seems to me that the gears are not meshing completely? Like maybe the actuator is not fully changing/locking in the 4x4? I know this is a vague description but...

Have you checked your transmission fluid lately?
Sounds like the tranny is slipping.
BTW, for the CPI, check ebay.

Tranny fluid is fine. This problem only occurs in 4 wheel drive. Tranny is buttet proof.

Sounds like the tranny is slipping with the extra load brought by the front axle unless the transfer case is somehow going into neutral which I don't think it has the ability to do.

Is it possible that the electronic actuator isn't fully engaging 4 wheel drive? It almost sounds like the gears are not meshing completly, and then not ta all, like it's (transfer case) slipping into neutral.

okay, this migt be a shot in the dark but I posted here about what I originally suspected was a tranny problem, and tuned out to be a TCC module and wiring problem. Th module was telling the computer I was in 4wd lo, and was actually gearing the vehicle down, trying to stop the vehicle from going over 30. Remember, 4wd lo is not designed for these speeds, so the computer was trying to prevent me from getting to that speed. Look for post titled "Transmission or not transmission...that is the question" It tells you all my woes and the resolve. It may or may not help you
