Anyone know how you go about replacing an ignition lock cylinder for a 2001 yukon denali?

My daughter broke the key off in the ignition while trying to take it out.

I have to replace the the ignition cylinder lock which cost me $51.00

Can anyone giv me a heads up on how to do this?

Hi, please let the dealer do it because of the airbags (SIR). :banghead:
You could ruin the system or blow up the airbags.
IP is shorthand for Instrument Panel.

SIR Service Precautions
Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) maintains a reserved energy supply. The reserved energy supply provides deployment power for the air bags. Deployment power is available for as much as 1 minute after disconnecting the vehicle power. Disabling the SIR system prevents deployment of the air bags from the reserved energy supply.

Disabling the SIR System
Important: Refer to SIR Service Precautions before disabling the SIR system.
1. Turn the steering wheel until the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn OFF the ignition.
3. Remove the key from the ignition.
Important: With the AIR BAG Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
4. Remove the AIR BAG Fuse from the fuse block.
5. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (1) from the steering wheel module yellow 2-way connector (2) located at the base of the steering column.
6. Disconnect the steering wheel module yellow 2-way connector (2) located at the base of the steering column.
7. Access the IP module yellow 2-way connector (1) located behind the IP module (2) by removing the upper IP trim panel. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
8. Remove the CPA from the IP module yellow 2-way connector (1) located behind the IP module (2).
9. Disconnect the IP module yellow 2-way connector (1) located behind the IP module (2).
10. Remove the CPA from the LF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (2) located under the driver seat.
11. Disconnect the LF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1) located under the driver seat.
12. Remove the CPA from the RF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (2) located under the passenger seat.
13. Disconnect the RF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1) located under the passenger seat.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle Removal Procedure
1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle.
3. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
4. Using an awl, insert the tip into the ignition lock cylinder access hole (1).
5. Push down and hold the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
6. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.
7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder by pulling the ignition lock cylinder away from the steering column.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the ignition lock cylinder into the steering column using the following procedure:
1.1. Align the positioning locking tab slot on the lock module assembly to the positioning tab on the ignition lock cylinder.
1.2. Push the lock cylinder in until the locking tab locks in the lock module assembly.
2. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement -On Vehicle.
3. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Enabling the SIR System
1. Remove the key from the ignition.
2. Connect the RF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1) located under the passenger seat.
3. Install the connector position assurance (CPA) to the RF side impact module yellow 2-way
connector (2) located under the passenger seat.
4. Connect the LF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (1) located under the driver seat.
5. Install the CPA to the LF side impact module yellow 2-way connector (2) located under the driver seat.
6. Connect the IP module yellow 2-way connector (1) located behind the IP module (2).
Install the CPA to the IP module yellow 2-way connector (1) located behind the IP module (2).
Install the upper IP trim panel. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
7. Install the CPA to the IP module yellow 2-way connector (1) located behind the IP module (2).
8. Install the upper IP trim panel. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
9. Connect the steering wheel module yellow 2-way connector (2) located at the base of the steering column.
10. Install the CPA (1) to the steering wheel module yellow 2-way connector (2) located at the base of the steering column.
11. Install the AIR BAG Fuse to the fuse block.
12. Staying well away from all air bags, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
12.1. The AIR BAG indicator will flash 7 times.
12.2. The AIR BAG indicator will then turn OFF.
13. Perform Diagnostic System Check - SIR if the AIR BAG indicator does not operate as described.
