I currently have a Powertrax no-slip installed, and am disappointed with the unit. Whenever I turn a corner that is wet or snow covered and try even the slightest acceleration, the rear end locks and starts to hop (Tried adding some weight, helped a little). Even when backing and turning, sometimes I get a loud bang. An expensive lesson !
I would like to find a LSD without these problems. I understand that Eaton and Auburn are the preferred units. Any pros and cons to these as far as everyday driveability ? Thanks in advance -Mike

i have an auburn limited slip, and it only has posi when going straight, i live in california and dont have to worry about snow. i would like something that hooks up while turning. maybe we could make some sort of deal or trade since we are both looking for eachothers parts....just an idea?

I absolutely love my Eaton unit. I never get wheel hop in corners/curves, and it never fails to leave twin stripes when I need it to. Definately worth the money!

gtlegacy, I think your Auburn would be good for my truck. My unit only drives 1 wheel when turning, but if that wheel (inside) starts to slip, the unit locks both wheels very aggressively, even if the road is just wet. It doesn't work for me in my daily driver. On a positive note, it is fairly easy to install, but only works in a open differential carrier. I am in the Toronto Ontario area. Not sure if that might be an issue.

Slowprocess, how does your Eaton unit perform when turning from a stop when slippery. I should have asked these questions before I bought my no-slip. Your truck reminds me of the original Chev SS concept truck from 99. Very nice ! I think I have a magazine article on that some place.

2000 Silverado 1500, 10 bolt, but I'm not sure of the spline count. I know it's a 8.6 " which is in the NBS. They originally sent a 8.5", which would not work. A guy I work with did show interest in buying it off me, so I'll see if he still wants it first. You may want to check out their website, I think there is a application chart. www.powertrax.comclick on powertrax traction systems.

I am looking at the powertrax for my truck also. Am I hearing that it is not the right choice.
The eaton install is a bit more involed. I agree it is the way to go, however can I do it in my driveway. Bolt out and bolt in??

I never get the wheel hop in turns like some people get with a stock unit. Anytime I get on it hard it's locked. My stock posi was unlocking on hard launches, and I was getting one wheel spin at about the 61ft mark, and that was if it even locked in the first place. My Eaton hasn't failed yet to lock in and stay locked as long as the power is being fed to it. It does pretty good in slippery conditions, but with my current tire size and horsepower, I can throw it sideways pretty easy at 60mph with any kind of moisture on the road.
I would probably leave the install to a professional. My installer had mine in no more than an 1 hr. It just takes getting it shimmed right and experience in getting everything right. I didn't want to mess with it.

About how much would I expect to spend for the eaton, installed.
I love this truck, but the open rear really sucks in rain, snow and ice.
It has got to go.

My truck has a 14 bolt 9.5" rear with the G80 unit and i think its pretty damn good. i have heard others complain about the G80 but i like mine a lot. The 14 bolt rear is nearly indestructable so as long as the G80 hold together im fine. My rear usually always locks from a stop but will unlock at high wheel speeds, which can vary cuz sometimes it will unlock at 40 and other it will stay locked til 50 or 60. Wet roads are kinda sketchy, cuz of the tires tho, it was fine before the turd kings. I personally woulndt want to but an expensive locker/posi in 10 bolt rear in fear that it would break. But i were to buy another locking unit it would be an eaton.

The G80 is one type of locking rear end unit available in most all silverados. Larger axle trucks come standard with them and other have it as an option. But now i think they have the G80 or an eaton available.
