Destroying Batteries

My 98 Cavalier is going to break the bank, I had ABS/Brake problem and they installed new ABS Motor Pack because motor not driving centre gear. When I picked car up and tried to start everything was dead, they tested Battery and said after 6 years it needed to be replaced. I went to CTC and bought the Eliminator (their best). 4 days later while at the mall I went out and everything was dead again, a battery power pack was able to start it, but when you shut it off it was dead again. They checked altinator and tested for draw on battery but everything ok, they replaced the battery and chalked it up to a bad battery. 10 days later my son comes home and says the ABS & Brake light are back on, I went out to the car and again everything is dead, it will start with a battery booster pack but the battery will not even charge. I take it in again and they say the new battery is no good. So after getting the motor pack installed for $1000. CDN we have gone through 3 batteries, the car is at dealership and has been for 3 days, they say altinator is fine and cannot find a draw on battery, Something is killing the battery instantly and it is funny how for 6 years it was fine until I had the work done

you could eliminate the abs pump as the problem by removing the big abs fuse(maxi) before is sits overnight. i think you should find a dealership with competent mechanics. this shouldn't be a hard problem to diagnose obviously there is a draw or the alternator has burnt out diodes and is cooking the battery. if your mechanic did a proper alternator test, parasitic draw test, battery load test, voltage drop test on all major wires you wouldn't be having these problems. if you lived closeby i'd fix it after work for a case of beer!!!

I second that. You need to get it to a reputable shop. This should not be that tuff to fix.

I agree. Canadian Tire is taking you for a ride. This happened to my friend last week. After a new alternator, battery and ground cable (over $400.00) he was still having problems.

We simply took the negative batt cable off the battery, put a test light between the cable and battery and started pulling fuses until the light went out. We narrowed it down to the proper circuit at least & he's able to drive the car until he can find a decent shop to fix it.
