Seeing as how the 2.5L (same engine as yours) contour has a drag limited speed of 135 mph and the 195-200 hp svt contour has a drag limited speed of 143 mph, the results of the cougar are going to be close to the non svt contour. Car and driver even tested it at a drag limited speed of 134 mph.

I have the 99 cougar (bought it used so I dont know about the chip) however I am currently stationed in germany and have had it out on the autobahn and have on several occations had it up to 140 but never put it over that but it did seem as if i had enough left to go more. BTW even at that speed cars like the BMW Z-3 and the Audi A-4 fly by like your sitting still.

Hey whats wrong with the 2.5L duratec? :sly: Just because its "small" doesn't mean it cant put out some power. Not to mention, the 2.5L duratec that came in the svt contour (same engine as the cougar, just 25-30 less depending on which year) had the highest hp/liter back in its day. :2cents:
A turbo would certainly do it but a 3.0L swap could do it for you for heck of a lot cheaper. People with 3.0L's have run anywhere from mid 13s to low 14s and trapping from 96 - 101 mph in the 1/4 naturally aspirated. Now turbo, thats a different story. :smokin:

and how exactly would you turn off the speed limiter in the pcm? btw, there is 3 speed governors all which must be turned off via the OBD-2 port with some sort of software. (i.e. SCT) Sounds like something you could do on an old school car, but not a vehicle with EEC-V like the cougar.
