S-10 & MPG

Today I check my MPG on a trip of 116.9 miles.

The driving consisted of about 3/4 of it on 2 lane highway at speeds of 35 to 65, passed thru 4 small towns, the rest of it was on interstate and I set the cruise control at 77 MPH.

My 92 S-10 Blazer 4 X 4 with 3:42 ratio axles, with automatic with overdrive with a bit over 136,000 got 23.38 MPG.

That is about nearly the same as it got on a trip of about 300 miles when it had about 20,000 miles on it.

Is 3:42 gears about what they put in all of them?

how many gallons did you use for how many miles.

I had topped out my tank before leaving, it had a bit more than half a tank of regular unleaded gas, but I filled it with unleaded premium.

On return I filled up at the same place again with unleaded premium, 5.0 gallons and 116.9 miles.

I drove about like I always do, except on the 32 miles of interstate, where I set the cruise control at about 78 MPH, where the speed limit was 70 MPH, the only thing I passed was 2 18 wheelers and one pickup truck that was towing a trailer with a Ford pickup truck on it that had a very high lift kit with extremely larger tires on it, several cars passed me like I was setting still.

It seemed everyone was in a big hurry and not worried about the one state trooper on the interstate that had one of those fast looking small sports cars stopped writing them a ticket.

Right on the spot 5.0 gallons, I figure I got it filled just about the same as I did when I topped it out at the same place with the same gas pump on my way over there.

My last fill up got me 61 miles on a half a tank.How about MPG?

Gives you a pretty rough idea though, 61 miles and the gas gauge is on 1/2,when it usually is on the 3/4 mark, :disappoin it's safe to say something is wrong.

The sad thing is in 1968 I had a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed and running the speed limit of 75 MPH on interstate, which was the speed limit at that time, it would constantly get 21 MPG and it had much power.

Before that I had a 1957 Chevy with the 283 power with 3 speed manual, it to would get 21 MPG if I would keep it 70 and below.

What kind of driving did you do to use half of a tank of gas in 60 miles?

PS. I have always wondered what that 1967 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed would have gotten if I had of drove it in a manner to get good gas milage, back them gas was about 30 to 35 cents a gallon, besides it was hard to keep my foot out of it for some reason.

i usually get 18-22 mpg, which really sucks at $2.19 per gallon, and thats LOW grade...... Time for a Vespa Scooter.

hahaha, I actually ride a 50cc scooter around town when I can. LOL, I get at least 100km to the gallon (premium) with that thing. I run fully synthetic fluids in it too -hahaha. The area speed limit is only 30mph so I'm fine, but when it's snowy out, well that's a different story...

well, its been unusually warn this winter in Denver. Of course i do regular tune-ups, drive agressively.... me???? no way... ok honestly, i drive my truck quite hard. BUT keep in kind it is my own fault, not my truck. I guess i should try not driving so hard and not speeding might help.

My S-10 Blazer has had 2 sets of plugs, one disturber cap, one rotary button, 2 sets of plug wires.

Timing has never been set since I go it.

3 air filters & the oil changed ever 4,000 miles along with oil filter & it has a bit over 136,000.

2 heater cores, one radiator, one water pump, one fuel pump, one fuel filter, two air conditioner compressors, 3 batteries.

One sensor changed that kicks in 4 wheel drive, one front axel boot.

Oh, one sensor, I don't recall the name of it, but on my 92 S-10 4.3 W engine it is below the 2nd spark plug on drivers side of engine.

And the drivers side electric window motor has been replaced and the carbon cleaned off the EGR valve once for it was stuck open.

And it still will get over 23 MPH, not bad, least I don't think it is.

It still seems as if it still has as much power as it did when it got broke in.

If I could go to the Chevy place and give $17,500 as I did this one, and get one just like it brand new, I would leave the house right now!

The wife nor I neither one cared for the Trailblazer, so in 2002 we got a Jeep Grand Cherokee, it is to early to tell if that was a mistake.

You should have a scanner hooked up to your and go for a test drive.

BTW, don't trust fuel economy by the gauge. Do the miles driver / gallons used equation from now on.
