this maybe weird or old question but I was wondering for performance, which is better? I am going to test drive both tommorow and I was wondering because the sales guy keeps pushing towards the auto-man. I'd rather not have one but, if it is better i will think about it.

That guy is full of shit. The next time you see him kick him in the balls, and tell him he doesnt know how to shift if he thinks the auto's are faster than manuals. Ask why the Evo only come come in a five speed, and six speed? That should shut him up!

Make sure that when you *do* buy a car, you dont buy it from him. That guy is just a jackass. Yes, they sell the manual. Yes, it is faster. The Auto-man is the lazy mans stick. 4speed, instead of 5. Yes, I do have one, and if i could, i'd swap it for the 5 speed. I drove an 00 Eclipse GT identical to mine a while back (met some chick @ the bar, both of us drunk, same car, etc) but hers was the 5speed, i could tell the diff between mine and hers like night and day. Tho - Once I get that high-stall torque converter, I wonder if there'll be such a huge difference...

anyways, as Back said, kick in in the nuts. Dont listen to his BS. Make sure you get what YOU want, nt what they have in stock. You will always find a better deal after you've bought your car :)

the "autostick" transmission is just a regular old automatic transmission (with 4 clutches, 4 speeds, accumulators, bands, and a torque converter) with a cheap electronic override that doesn't work very well.

okay i work for a mitsubishi dealership here and pa and ill tell you why we want to sell automatics over 5 speed. cuz its a $900 "option". to but it simple autos cost more so we make more. simple

and with the sportstronic, you have to use the OEM transmission fluid. which means more money for the dealership when you flush the transmission

well I did like the 5 speed better of course. But like all car ads the are all phony gimmicks. "Great inventory reduction! All cars must GO!" isn't that the goal of all car lots everyday of the damn year?

If you buy a sports car and you get a automatic - then you need help! Only ladies buy sports cars and get an automatic over a manual. (LOL)

Are you serious about what you said, even though Manual would be better your saying that sportronic transmission on a car makes it a chic car, come on man.

You need to be kicked in the shin really hard. What do you think indy cars are? Drag cars? Quite a few WRC Rally cars? Le Mans cars? Rolex Series cars? All of these cars have some sort of Sport-Tronic shifting if not full auto!!!

and sometimes there are reasons why men by automatic sports cars. a perfect example: my dad drives a lot for his job, and its just gotten to be a hassle for him to worry about shifting in the middle of rush hour while coordinating with his partners on the phone. not everyone that buys a sports car buys it for the power- its usually for the looks.

Nascars go around in big circle's, and aren't pre-occupied with 30 cars going through a bottle neck turn. Also they usually only use the 2 top gears on most of the tracks. Having the sport-tronic on their cars would only be added weight for them.

NASCAR needs manual for max gas mileage too; minimize pit stops.

5 spd is just alot more fun. if you have a 5spd but you hate it in traffic....then you probably dont have that fun of a car. my friend has a 240sx 5spd and that is a total blast to drive. once youre used to shifting traffic is no problem.

'02 RS is a fun 5 speed, my brother has one. the car i was referring to with my father is an '01 GS, which i have now. still very fun. wanting an automatic has nothing to do with not having a fun car, genius. and he knows how to shift(duh), but when you drive 50,000 miles a year it just gets to the point where it becomes a hassle rather than a benefit.
