Hey all I found a stock 92 talon NA. with 110k on it for $2500 my only concern with the car is when its idling it makes a clatter like sound. The guy said its probably the timing chain (Thats exactly what it would sound like if it were that) But im not too sure. What could this be and does it sound worth it? Its in great shape other wise. Gimme some advise! Thanx..

2500 without him fixing that issue is too much. Got my 1st gen talon N/A for 2 grand canadian.

Yea were still negotiating. He says he'll fix it but my only concern is that he said its a chain but i went to autozone to price a new one and the guy at the counter said that particular car uses belts. Whos right?

Well there is a timing belt and a timing chain. My suggestion for you is to have him replace both as the timing belt would need to be replaced again within the next 10k miles or so to prevent free-wheeling or interference

Can you please show me where this "chain" is? Because i think Mitsu. must of forgot to put it on all 3 of my DSM's!!!

I would say don't buy it. :nono: You can find a good turbo DSM for that much just search around. That is unless a N/A DSM is what your looking for? i don't know why you would want a N/A DSM, but you never know.

I'm selling the 95 TSi in my sig for $4000, and it has only 60k on the new engine.

LOL, you mistook what I said. It's called either a timing belt or timing chain, both referring to the same thing

the eclipse's had a timing belt. if you plan to make this fast, i would just save for a turbo or awd turbo instead of spending the extra $$$ to make it turbo plus having all the supporting mods like tranny, gauges and that shit.

Save a bit more money and go for the turbo car.

Where abouts in Canada are you Raz? I am in AB.

And yea, don't be cheap like me and make irrational decisions when getting your first car...be patient

raz kaz: a timing belt and a timing chain are two very different things. they both are used to drive the cam gears etc.. but a timing chain is like the chain on a bike its made of metal links. a timing belt is a belt with teeth. they both are used for the same purpose but they arent the same.

Ok But would a bad belt cause the same noise? It sounds like something hitting plastic. I want to get the car (talked the guy down to 2k for it) Because it is in remarkably great shape for a 92. I know it kinda sux for being a non turbo but i dont want a serious racer. (I have a 5.0 mustang also) I just want something that looks good is good on gas yet can still throw some aftermarket parts at and be able to smoke the occasional honda. My only concern is this noise. I want to make sure its nothing too huge.

a timing belt wouldn't make the same noise as a chain would but you could have a bearing on a pull out or somethig of that nature that would cause that noise.
