time for a new clutch!

well im new to this clutch stuff.... my old clutch is dead, just died as of today... any suggestions on clutch/flywheels under lets say $350? (99 prelude)

If you plan on doing it yourself $350 sounds right for a decent clutch. Thats not including a flywheel. You can have the old one resurfaced. If you have a shop do it plan on spending more

That is a pretty good deal for oem. Do you plan on doing the work yourself or a friend? Because most shops wont put that clutch in due to liabilty issues. Most shops will want you to buy the part from them so that they can warranty part and labor.

I bought an Exedy OEM clutch, and it came with all the parts needed to install, including bearings, alignment tools etc...

I didn't put in the clutch myself, so I can't tell you how hard it is to do; but i'll tell you its not something I could tackle in my own garage by myself. I had a shop do it for me for $200, including flywheel resurfacing.

o yeah is it really worth the money gettin a performance clutch if my car is non-turboed? and do the clutch and flywheel increase hp or torque?

I'm pretty sure the stock clutch can hold a good amount of power as is. I've never driven a car with a "Stage 2" clutch or anything like that, so my opinion is questionable.

A performance Clutch/Flywheel combo doesn't necessarily increase "power". What it really does is put more of the power that you already have, down to the pavement.

You will not get added HP from an oem clutch and flywheel. You will get better grab. Well it will run like it did when the car had a newer clutch in it.

that's a damn good deal on ebay, considering manual flywheels are usually expensive as hell to begin with. your stock clutch is just fine for what you want to do... once you get close to 300 hp, then you can start thinking about a stage 2 clutch. and your car doesn't always have to be turboed just to be fast or need a fancy clutch in it or anything like that... there are plenty of fast N/A preludes out there that have over 500 hp... you just gotta know what you're doing and most importanly, you gotta have money.

alright, i strongly recommend clutchcityonline.com i bought my xact/exedy combo from them (price: $525 w/tax). i got it the next day since they're in tampa, fl and i live in miami, FL. anyways, yea, unless you plan on doing this yourself, installation is gonna cost you pretty much more than you have budgeted alone! shops like pep boys and such will charge around $400 just for labor. my g/f's mom's ex-brother in law did it for me for free (i gave him some cash in gratitude), but i have to admit, he was being very very generous, and it took about 8 hours to do, even with the right tools and a lift. so good luck.
