Teh following is for teh 1990 eighty eight royale
Hey, i now actually have something useful to contribute to this place.
Like 3 months back i installed all new audio: speakers, and Head Unit.
Not being to satisfied, i wanted to find more bass. I noticed how stupid the 6x9's are put in(in that huge box with the little plastic screws) and have seeing that my friends 6x9's were exposed i also wanted mine exposed.
If only there was a way to get them in without that STUPID box!!
Well neways what you do is take the speaks out and line them up where you want them to be mark it with something. Then drill small holes for the screws to go in on three sides(one side has an existing hole that you cant do anything with) Then basically bolt it up.
The drilling is simi easy and the whole install takes about an hour(if your me) Im sure if you had some experiance you could get it done in 30 mins, but im not too experianced so yup, i would sujjest the noobs to give it a try. And you really couldn't mess nething up bad bc the holes are small and the box would cover them up neways.
Do It!

6x9's did not cut it in my old car. (1987 Ninety Eight)
even a small sub makes a huge difference in the overall sound.
2 weeks after owning my 87 It was obvious I needed some music in there.
did it on a major budget with a mid-level pioneer deck and infinity mids.

I too needed some low end.

that whole setup with hu, front coax, rear 6x9 pioneer, 10" sub, and 300watt USX amp ran me less than $350. Sounded quite good for a budget system.
Then sorta upgraded since well...sort of caught the bass bug.

but anyway what dash speakers are you running?
