hi,
my 1990 1.9 gti 205's leaking oil, bad!
i'll fill it up with oil and it will run ok but will soon start losing it rapidly, i leave a pool of oil everywere i go, also when it starts running low on oil it struggles to tick over, the stop light on the dash lights up and sometimes cuts out i cant seem to see were its coming from but it cakes the whole engine bay in oil. the most of it looks like its coming from around the filler cap area but im not sure, dus anyone no wot cud be the matter or common places to check?
i no it's not much to go on but any feed back would be great as im clueless!
thanx guys

ummm where to start!...common oil leak areas are dizzy seal, sump gasket, rocker cover etc..but by the sounds of it you have a split hose to your sump from your filler pipe, these ARE common and the hose hardens and perishes..a quick way to find out is if there is fresh oil around your sump?

The hose itself is made up of three pipes inluding the filler neck and runs under the manifold next to the starter.

I'd reccomend replacing the distributor seal(internal) and r/c gasket aswell. Also replace the sump plug washer- they're cheap.Saving yourself time and money and oil stains!,in the long run.

Good luck!
