VR6 idle issue + other question

Hi all.
I've search for an answer to this, but having trouble finding more specific info.
My 97 VR6 has an idling problem where the rpms will drop off to nothing, almost die then engine will rev back up past 1000. I've been told it could possibly be the idle control valve, but I'd like to have a better idea before I send it to a shop or pull it out myself.

Also wondering if anyones ever heard of a preformance coil pack for the VR6???

The idle control valve is part of the throttle body assmembly. You have to replace the whole thing. Also I dont think there is any "performance" coil packs out there. Just but a vw one, it will save you the hassle of problems. Also check for intake leaks, the intake boot from the MAF sensor to throttle body cracks alot and can cause a huge vacuum leak and revs to move like that.

good to know. BUt why is it then that you can buy the idle control valve separately???
interesting because i noticed a leak where the intake tube connects to the throttle body. Thought I fixed it but I wil check again. maybe make the fittment a bit better. Is it a horrible idea to use grease around the lip of the thorttle body where the intake and clamp go? I'm guessing silcone would be a horrible idea at that location.

yea.... uhh dont think your engine would like silicone to much.....
