Electric out while installing indiglo needles? HELP!!

I have a 1997 Eclipse RS, and were recently installing some indiglo gauge needles. I set up the power and ground cables on the small light that's below the steering wheel/dash. It's a small bulb; so I unplugged the bulb, put in the power and ground cables, put the bulb back. The lights started working. I then turned on the car, and everything electrical died. The radio stopped working, and all lights inside no longer work. Is there any way to fix this, or what happened? Do I just buy new fuses, or what can I do? Please help. I don't want this to turn into a huge thousand dollar job at some shop. Thanks.
